This place is nicer than most are describing. It’s definitely used, but it’s a batting cage! They had an area with a tv and two small tables to wait. 4 cages. Three benches. I wish they had coat hooks. They have bats and helmets for public use. Cheap fun date night. We will be going back there for sure! We went on a very cold day Thursday at 5pm and there was one person there for about 5 mins then at the very end another group showed up other than that it was all to us.
The cages and equipment are very well maintained. You don't even need to bring a bat or helmet, they have many sizes for both kids and adults available. The pricing is low, 22 pitches for $2 can't really be beat, and the price goes down as you buy more tokens at a time.
Awesome place to take the kids and get some practice swings in!!!
First time stopping by these batting cages and I was genuinely impressed. Plenty of amenities including a rentable multipurpose room for more than just hitting. Rentable for 25 dollars an hour. 9 dollars for 110 pitches is a very reasonable rate all things consider. The bats are the only thing that really leaves something to be desired with worn out grips and classic wear and tear. Adjustable pitch speed and height makes practicing different areas easy.
They have a nice selection of baseball and softball speeds. Baseball limited to 70mph which is limiting for adults, would be nice to see an 80mph machine. Not very busy on a Saturday afternoon during the summer, which was nice. Equipment is clean and well kept.
I’ve been coming here for years due to the convenient location. I came in tonight to get some swings in after not playing for a month. Having just a few tokens to use from a previous visit I was down to my last token and the lady who was working came in and shut all the machines off. I asked if she was shutting everything down? “Yes, we close at 6:00.” I explained that I only had one token left and that I wasn’t aware of the time there are no clocks. She said that I must not have heard her over the sounds of four running pitching machines that they were closing. No offer to let me use my ONE token that would have taken 3-4 minutes. It was only myself and a young boy with his Mom. What trouble would it have been for her to walk down to talk to each of us? We were both IN the cages when she shut them off. Instead the lady was obviously in a hurry to get out the door as she locked the doors only moments after we left at 6:02. Typical disregard for customers that is plaguing society today. This place is no exception!
I live in Minneapolis, so this was a bit of a hike, but after trying to go to the Edina cages a couple days prior, we were disappointed to get to Edina & they tell us they don’t have slowpitch machines like,,,, whattt?? So anyways, a few days later we trek out to St Paul from North Minneapolis, and are very pleased to find that this place did in fact have slowpitch machines, unlike the one on Edina...which like, why? ALL adults play slowpitch... but whatever We got there around 1 on a Tuesday, & my friend & i were the ONLY ones there. Tokens are cheap AF, $2/token which gets you 22 pitches. I’d love to keep supporting these cages because it’s funded and put on by the STP parks & rec board, & they offer discounts to St. Paul students & athletes.. & I just think it’s nice that they are encouraging kids to find healthy, cheap, positive, athletic activities to do in their free Time. We were the only ones in there at 1pm on a Tuesday, so I’d say if you wanted to hit without being around too many people, I’d suggest hitting this place in the early afternoon. Pretty decent bat selection, with a variety of SB & BB bats ranging in different height, weight, & diameter & if I’m remembering correctly they might have even had a composite softball bat? Don’t quote me on that though. It was a great place to get some practice swings before my alumni league started. & just beware that it may take a couple pitches to get the height of the pitch corrected especially if you 5’3 like me.. Had a couple technical issues with the balls not dispensing into the pitching machines correctly, but the nice lady working was easily able to get the balls feeding into the machines again quickly for us. 10/10 will be back to these cages. They’re the 1cheapest I’ve found, 2 ACTUALLY have slow pitch cages, which who honestly wouldn’t these days?? literally everyone over the age of 18 still playing recreationally on a diamond, is MORE than likely playing beer league slowpitch, church league, bar sponsored COED teams, etc; & all the softball games/tournaments that go on in every cities/towns weekend summer festivals, at least all the ones around me, one of the biggest attractions at some of those festivals duk duk daze-New Hope, Crystal Frolic-Crystal, Aquatennial- MPLS, & Whiz Bang Daze- Robbinsdale are the softball tournaments... So thank you for making sure to cater to ALL your customers, not just the ones who are playing varsity baseball & fastpitch. Cause in reality, us adults who haven't played recently, are REALLY the ones that need to get in there and be able to swing at a few balls to prevent any injury. it can be a little dangerous to those of us getting into our adulthood to just step up to the plate & start swinging when you’ve been out of the game for a while. So thank you city of St Paul! I hope you guys can keep this place up & running! I plan on making quite a few return visits here through the rest of the summer to get batting practice in during the week between games. So thank you for this facility!
For the price it really can't be beat. Yes, the machines aren't the best and all of the complaints a valid in terms of inconsistent accuracy, actual number of pitches per token and quality, but seriously, for $17 you can get around 200 pitches. Not the place for professional training obviously, but a great place to spend an hour or two with your kids!
Decent prices. 4 or 5 cages with 3 being for slow pitch softball. Balls get stuck often which is the only negative. Never that busy on weeknights. Check hours before you go.
Lucky to get 1 star. Batting helmets without screws in face mask, 66 pitches on 3 rounds 4 strikes. RUDE customer service that my son asked if that guy hated baseball and or kids!? I have been here many times over the years - sad and the only comment we got from another staff member was "Sorry, I don't know what his problem is." Sorry, we could do a better job with our equipment."
