I spent there 3 days, the place is generally good, but some areas could benefit from improvement. The staff like nurses and doctors were predominantly good, I suggest that you pay attention to what CNAs are doing - they not always taking the accurate measurementslike your blood pressure - wife had a blood pressure of 155, they measured once, didn't like the number, measured another two times, different sleeves etc, got the number 120 and it worked for them. Wife had a life threatening condition btw, had to stay 5 days there. If you giving birth you can book a room like in a hotel, much more comfortable, will offset you $900. Food leaves much to be desired. The sandwiches are edible though. They have nice places around the hospital, better go there. Nurses are very nice, had good experience with them. Our RN Jill Dawson were super nice and helpful, professionally approached the patients and paid attention to what's happening, you don't see that often. Nurses where you spend the time after delivery are good too, some of them are ladies with 30+ years of experience, don't expect them to be nice smiley happy campers, if you work in a hospital for so long it can make you a bit bitter about people around you. They are nice people though, just don't look welcoming if you know what I mean. Buy them some cookies or chocolates. Or booze? Water from the faucet was permanently cold, door was creaky, room could benefit from ventilation. On the positive side, the bed is huge, you have your own shower and tv, fridge and comfy couchlike chair. To fight creaky door hinges you can use a concoction of white petrolatum and hand sanitizer, put it in that baby feed bottle and squirt on hinges. Because the maintenance guy will never come no matter what. All put together - not a bad experience, good hospital.
I paid 700 for 2 nights in a private room 4 months ago and the entire time they were doing construction right above the room with hammers and power tools. I'm not one to complain but I paid good money for that room and my wife who hasn't slept in 2 days was extremely upset. We complained to the nurse who was able to have our complaints heard from H.R or something and they agreed to refund the room. I've called every week for about 3 months before I gave up. No one calls back and when I do get in touch they give me the run around like they haven't heard from me 5 times already. Completely ruined my experience luckily it was one of the happiest days of my life due to the birth of my second daughter but I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone for that fact alone. Thanks for nothing I'm gonna show the video I took to my sister in law to make sure she goes elsewhere in a few months.
My firs baby born in this hospital and we feel lucky to born baby here. Everybody very polite, professional and familiar. God bless everybody who works in this hospital, doctor, nurses and all the others who assist this hospital to be THE BEST!!!! Thank you
What a waste of a hospital. No one communicates amongst themselves. Had multiple physicians tell me different things about my mother's condition. Was told she is allowed to eat, then that she shouldn't have eaten. Waited all day for a test to be told no she isn't getting it. Waited over an hour for medicine for pain after asking multiple times. A joke of an ED. Ultimately left AMA, barely because we were told she isn't allowed to walk out.. I'm sorry, since when can you hold someone hostage? They took forever to even get her the AMA paperwork, she was exhausted after her useless stay there of incompetebt staff poking and prodding and hurting her, they could have at least got her out quickly. The Doctor they promised her for the span of her stay was still no where to be found. They were focused on one symptom and ignoring so many others. I sat and watched a male nurse gather others around discussing his facebook dramas ans whatever guy, sit and sip coffee, at one point get up and hand someone a bedpan and then go back to gossiping while we had to wait for any need. This is what nursing looks like here. Had to take her to SIUH where she got ACTUAL care by the stroke team who didn't just see her vomiting and "anxiety". This scam of a an emergency department should be shut down. How dangerous! EDIT... they respond to call them. I tried calling patient care and no one picked up multiple times. So don't make it seem like you are interested in hearing more. I had a LOT of questions and needed help from a nurse manager or patient care representative and not one number picked up. So don't insult me more by making it seem like you care about experience in the least. You don't.
4 hours in the ER without seeing a single nurse, was told my nurse was “rose”. I didn’t meet her until I gave up and tried to leave at which point I was asked for discharge papers by the security guards and when I said I was never seen, they paged Rose and she walked away while I was speaking politely to her and a doctor was sent over to tell me it is against his medical advice that I leave! What a joke. I didn’t receive any medical attention the whole time but don’t try to leave, you will be held hostage. Worst experience I’ve had in a long time. Charged me and left me worse off then when I went in. Let me leave without any papers or information. Go to Staten Island University Hospital instead
The hospital experience was extremely disappointing. The care, employees, and overall experience were all terrible. We arrived at the hospital after a bad accident, and from the beginning, things went wrong. Despite speaking perfect English, the receptionist asked if my partner could speak English just because of his last name. In the trauma room, they stripped him down to his boxers without offering proper assistance, and when asked if he wanted a blanket, they simply threw it on him still folded while he couldn't even move due to a neck brace. They bombarded him with questions despite his difficulty focusing after being knocked unconscious. I informed everyone about his physical pre-existing condition as I was extremely alarmed about him being harmed in that area of his body during the accident. After taking scans, they left him waiting in the hallway for 2 hours before getting a room. They waited until I left for a head scan to ask him to sign documents he couldn't read, keeping the clipboard out of his sight. During our 13-hour stay, they left a catheter in his arm that was never used, removed his neck brace without knowing if there was an injury, left him on a beeping machine with a dying battery, and only offered Tylenol once after 6 hours of being admitted. They kept saying they didn't have the scan results yet. When we had enough by the 13th hour, I had to confront them to get a doctor, who spent just 3 minutes with us, offered no help, and was dismissive. On the other hand, I was attended to promptly and received my results and medication within an hour. They claimed no doctors were available for my partner before hitting the 13 hour mark, which seemed like nonsense. No one was able to explain anything about the scans while we were there due to their system being down. We only found out a week later when we had to purchase a DVD of the scans since it was literally the only thing they claimed they could offer as far as medical records. We found out then, that the scans didn't include the specific area we were concerned about, which was absolutely unacceptable. This hospital does not deserve to be considered a medical facility. The employees' behavior was disgraceful, and I would not recommend seeking medical help here. If you're in an emergency, go to another hospital where they actually care. We never felt safe, cared for, or secure during our stay.
Worst emergency room ever. Resident know nothing and nurses “traveling” nurses are nasty bad attitudes and zero bed side manners. You sit here for hours just so they can bill you, not to actually treat you or address your medical needs. Scary that facilities like this exist. It’s like 3rd world treatment and care would probably be better.
Horrible treatment. They ignore you. You scream in pain they give you pain meds. You tell them they don't work. They kept giving me pain meds that didn't work. Private nurses at the desk were angry from my screams. Mocked me said ask your nurse. The other nurse laughed and smiled. I was sweating sitting in my urine.I got chest pains, begging to see my Dr. My Dr. didn't tell me what was wrong with me. They let me scream from the 16th in the evening to early morning the 17th. They told me I couldn't sceam.. This is the Emergency Room. It was hell. Don't ever go here or bring a loved one. They don't care!!!
My guy nurse Nick was amazing and so was his partner Nurse J was kool n medical assistant Crystal was great . Overall my experience with the nurses were better than the doctors . The nurses make up for what the doctors lack . My dr who was a female took her time to see me n then arrived as if it wasn’t her job to attend to patients. Dr Thomas was okay n the dr who discharged me explained the possibilities of my sickness but not the actual cause but again he was attentive compared to the other doctors . I give the nurses 10 stars n the doctors 4 and the new emergency room update gets 5 stars. It was so clean n not a junkie or homeless person on site
You’re better off going anywhere else. It’s old, dirty and the staff here has the typical Staten Island attitude. They could care less about helping you or your family and only are there for a paycheck. The computers are still down over a month later… and I was just told they will most likely be down for 3 more months. The level of care and professionalism at this hospital will cause a malpractice lawsuit. Doctors and nurses should be embarrassed by the conditions they have to work in here. Go to NYC or jersey, don’t go to this hospital for a splinter or a bandaid. Stay away.
