Rites of Passage NW

About

Family owned Wilderness Therapy Adventure Trek Programs: re-directing troubled teens and young adults in making healthier decisions. We make use of multiple therapy techniques with trained professionals and bring about great change.

Description

Located in the Northwest of Washington, Rites of Passage NW is designed to help adolescents and young adults break destructive behavior patterns, feel greater self-worth, and reconnect with their inner strength and resources. Teens ages 11-17 and young adults 18-30+ participate in 30+ day continuous flow programs in which staff and therapist supervise the group for the duration of the program. On their journey, your troubled teen or young adult will learn powerful tools to enable them to make healthy choices to transition their lives in a positive new direction.
Wilderness therapy programs have proven themselves to be exceptional catalysts for change in troubled children and teenagers. Rites of Passage is a unique transformationtal process that is difficult to find in our fast-paced, modern society. We treat teens struggling with a variety of situations including family conflict, negative peer group involvement, isolation, or spending excessive time on computers. Some have been struggling academically, have low self-esteem, may be abusive toward their parents and siblings, or may be experimenting with drugs and alcohol.
With self-reliance and self-respect as the goal, the forested, mountain setting removes urban distractions and simplifies options to help students gain insight into their core values and accept responsibility for their choices. As a result, students begin to accept responsibility for personal decisions, address individual and family issues, and become invested in their own personal growth.
Rites of Passage provides families with a safe and immediate intervention by utilizing individualized treatment plans, and flexible length of stay. Each student will build their sense of self-worth as they learn the value of helping others. A supportive peer group and trained instructors will help your troubled teen reflect and consider how life may be different without negative life choices. Trained therapists help our students draw analogies between their wilderness experience and real life to give them insight and perspective.
The program’s high staff-to-student ratio and personalized treatment plans ensure emotional growth and attentive care during the transition process. Our policy of a variable length of stay is based upon our philosophy that every student is different and that they progress at a different rate. We also believe it is extremely important that the student understands that their graduation from the program is dependent upon their work and effort towards achieving treatment goals rather than surviving a predetermined length of stay in the program.Wilderness therapy programs (sometimes referred to as Outdoor Education) have proven themselves to be exceptional catalysts for change in troubled children and teenagers.
