Description

"The Back Story"

Our outdoor wedding venue is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada near Bakersfield and Fresno and provides a superb backdrop for a rustic or country wedding. The wedding can be anything from a simple country theme (you’ll love our River Barn) to a traditional or even very formal outdoor wedding. Take this opportunity to design your personalized and unique wedding ceremony and reception!

About Us
River Ridge Ranch's foothill location in Tulare County is convenient to most of the Southern San Joaquin Valley from Bakersfield to Fresno. Just a short drive from Porterville, Exeter, Lindsay, Visalia, Dinuba, Hanford, Kingsburg, Lemoore, Delano, Turlock, Tulare, and Selma.

If you're from Los Angeles or the Bay Area, we provide a beautiful and very affordable destination wedding option.

River Ridge Ranch is a unique combination of working cattle ranch, recreation and education guest ranch in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The environmentally-conscious 722-acre ranch includes the Tule River and borders the 323,000 acre Giant Sequoia National Monument. River Ridge Ranch is a fully-protected ecological reserve. River Ridge Institute is a charitable non-profit that teaches sustainable and regenerative land use practices on River Ridge Ranch.

We are about three hours from L.A. and less than five hours from San Francisco.

When Gary and Barbara bought the old Negus Ranch in 1998 they didn’t have an outdoor wedding venue in mind. They bought what was to become River Ridge when it looked as if the land would end up as a major housing development on the Tule River.

Barbara and Gary thought they had a better idea- they just didn’t know what it was!

Gary Adest and Barbara Brydolf live in Springville, CA (population 1100). Both are trained in biology- he in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology- she in Molecular Genetics. Since 1990 they have worked together on a variety of field research projects in Wildlife Biology in Mexico, the deserts of the southwestern United States and now in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
By working with their local land trust and a number of partners and donors, they were able to place a conservation easement on the ranch and market the development rights. River Ridge is now fully protected forever and will remain a haven for people seeking personal restoration and recreation and for the flora and fauna which abound on the property.
In order to afford the costs of the property, mortgage, taxes, improvements and upkeep, Barbara and Gary decided to do what they knew best: to teach people about the outdoors. They also ended up learning to do what they knew nothing about: managing the day-to-day affairs of a working cattle ranch, a grazing regimen and the myriad of details in planning and providing for people to have a rewarding and memorable experience when visiting their ranch for weddings and other special events.
While River Ridge Ranch specializes in hosting romantic, intimate weddings, it also is a presence in the local community. Each year in the fall and spring, hundreds of school children from throughout Tulare County visit the ranch for a free day of outdoor education. River Ridge is a partner in a California Department of Fish and Game program named Trout in the Classroom and fourth and fifth-graders spend a day learning about watersheds, the water cycle and river ecology.

During the spring, summer and fall, River Ridge provides free entertainment every Wednesday evening through its ‘JAM Wednesday’ program; local musicians, poets and entertainers take the stage as the public joins in for a BYO Everything event. We continue to see folks who have been married on the ranch or attended a wedding showing up at JAM and that’s gratifying.
When you choose River Ridge, you* choose the ancient home of the Foothill Yokuts* choose a landscape that is forever protected from development* support our programs to improve water quality and reduce erosion* help us improve wildlife habitat for thousands of species* help us donate our property to local non-profits* choose a venue that reduces, re-purposes, recycles and reuses

Was here for my oldest sons wedding. The place was a little hard to find at first but omg it was amazing. The staff that was on hand for us were great. Not sure of the young man's name that drove the golf cart around getting people from the distance parking area. But he was a Godsend for me as I tore my ACL and MCL in my knee he drove me to each spot helped me in and out the whole day was just magical for my son and new beautiful daughter in-law.
This place is gorgeous! I originally gave it 3 stars only because it seems like if there are other campers you have to share the kitchen, bbq, freezers and I don't remember that we were told this. They do tell you that the shower, toilets, and fire pit are communal. So if you have a big group like we did I believe you'll have the place to yourselves, we had 20 people. But I'm not 100% certain about this, if you are interested, clarify with the host. As the days go by since we came home and we reflect on our stay at the River Ridge Ranch, I realize this place is special. We loved being here with all the family. On a separate note, be ready to watch out for black widows, bats, big nasty brown spiders, rodents of several types, coyotes we didn't see them, but they sounded awful close oh yea, and scorpions. Also, it was extremely hot the week we visited, it was triple digits. The shade from all the trees was a big relief. The cabin with the a/c was a huge relief. All in all, its a great camping location for big families 20+ or smaller groups if you don't mind sharing the facilities. The night sky is amazing!!
Manager Jose and Owner are very nice and accommodating. We booked this venue for our wedding. No real mountain views but the views of the foothills are visible almost everywhere on the property and still very beautiful. There are trails everywhere which I love. It's like booking a whole park for your wedding. Pricing is very affordable for as gorgeous as the venue is. Venue is more rustic than I typically like, but is definitely an easy place that could look more elegant with the right decor which is what our plan is. Tons of places to take your wedding pictures, they have an equipped kitchen and outdoor bar area with a fireit as well as lights and sound speaker built-in to the reception area. This place is absolutely perfect! I can't wait for our wedding here!
Such a beautiful place to hold a wedding or even camp. The mountains & mother nature provide the perfect backdrop for an outdoor wedding.
Beautiful facility, spectacular setting for weddings or other special events
Gorgeous, spacious, full of nature and has a great view. I love the gazebo and the trails. The trees are great. The vibe is honestly just amazing. We had a wedding and it was a perfect place to have a lot of people and definitely to have the wedding. Very good for pictures, kids, and large groups.
The venue was beautiful and secluded, but the owner was very rude, disrespectful, and difficult to work with. EDIT IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNER: We had a small gathering of 8 people and were celebrating our friend's 30th birthday party. We had "rave" music playing in the indoor pavilion, using it for background ambiance while we all sat around the campfire that night. Then without any warning, the neighbors called the police on us. The owner apparently knew this was happening but never attempted to contact us beforehand, and instead sent us a rude and threatening message demanding that we turn off the lights & music before the police came. Mind you, this is a secluded wedding venue surrounded by farmland. The pavilion even has its own sound system - noise & music were to be expected. When the police officer arrived, he said the owner had been having an ongoing dispute with the neighbor for months and this was not the first time the police were called. He confirmed that our noise levels were well below the 65-decibal legal threshold for outdoor gatherings on private property and said that we did nothing wrong. He said the neighbor wanted to file a formal complaint against the owner not us and the officer actually apologized to us for getting mixed up in their petty drama. The owner had every opportunity to resolve the problem peacefully and politely before it got out of hand. But instead he chose a very rude and hostile path, blaming us for his legal problems.
Lovely grounds and nice building, easy to see from the road. Not a very large venue for guests as far as covered reception seating or parking. The driveway is super bumpy and narrow.
Best friend had his wedding here, and the venue is beautiful, they did an excellent job landscaping the area, to provide seamless transition from area to area. The river that runs through is really beautiful
We had our baby shower hosted by River Ridge Ranch and owner Gary Adest. The experience was wonderful and the event was managed beautifully. I highly recommend River Ridge for any type of event such as weddings or special occasions.
