Description

Riverside National Cemetery is a cemetery located in Riverside, California, dedicated to the interment of United States military personnel. The cemetery covers, making it the third-largest cemetery managed by the National Cemetery Administration. Since 2000 it has been the most active cemetery in the system, based on the number of interments.HistoryRNC was established in 1976 through the transfer of from March Air Force Base, a section that during World War II was called Camp Haan. The site was selected in 1976 to provide full burial options for Southern California veterans and their families by President Ford’s Commission for National Cemeteries and Monuments. An additional was transferred by the U.S. Air Force in 2003.With 15 Medal of Honor recipients in attendance and the Marine Corps’ greatest fighter ace Joe Foss as featured speaker, RNC was dedicated and opened for burials Veterans Day, November 11, 1978. RNC’s first burial was Army Staff Sgt. Ysmael Villegas, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery at the cost of his own life at Villa Verde Trail on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, March 20, 1945. Following the war he was buried at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside. We laid my fiancé’s grandfather to rest here and everything turned out beautiful. The military honor ceremony was so nice. The TAPS music playing, the gun salute with rifles and all the small details were just what we needed to say our final goodbye and pay our respects to our proud veteran. The staff was all very kind as well.Visited onWeekday
Beautiful place horrible service!! They disrespected my loved one too the fullest. The services were rushed, lasted 15 min at most and was rudely interrupted by one of their workers!! Our party got separated by the workers and we didn't even get to say a proper goodbye. I've never been to a funeral that was handled so poorly. Heather who was a point person was all over the place and rude. When we asked her what just happened and why did we get separated she simply said, pin your location and have your siblings come to the grave site. I informed her that they didn't have their phone on since it was our father's funeral and she said, well you can walk to go get them. Then she said, I have another service to get to so if you have any questions you can email me.. I emailed them to complain and of course I never got a response. Horrible service
It is a beautiful cemetery with fountains and ponds. The grass is spectacularly green.
We came to visit and teach our children about Memorial Day. This cemetery is vast and beautiful. I have learned that the Riverside National Cementary is the largest of all in the United States. So many stories one can learn from reading the several placards scattered throughout the cementary. Even on a busy day like today you can find areas of tranquility. The memorial to the medal of honor soldiers is a sight to see. I would recommend good walking shoes and parking at the entrance off Van Buren. I was told inside the administration office there are several war artifacts however it was closed due to Covid policy.
I love this place. It is a beautiful place to be buried and my oarents are both there. They have various events during the year. If you are looking for a grave my suggestion is you do it online, before you go, because internet is not very good in there. They have a computer look up system, but sometimes it is.
3/11/2023 Thank you Riverside National Cemetery, on perfectly and beautifully executed service for my Mother and Father, the honors ceremony was exactly what my father wanted, he was a very proud Air Force Veteran. Everyone from Nathan, to Heather, to all the other staff, that i didnt get names to, were all professional, determined, and focused to grant my Mother and Father's last wishes and requests, along with ensuring all the present loved ones were met with compassion and welcome. Also, i want to thank the Head Honchos that met with me, may God Bless you, Thank you Alfredo Bazua
Came to visit my mother who is buried here - first time visiting since we held her service there back in February. Very well maintained... and she has an excellent view of the grounds where she is at.
Just experienced a terrible ending to a funeral for a fallen Sheriff deputy and Air Force Airman when an RNC worker Asian male abruptly kicked everyone out of the cemetery as the ceremony ended because "they" failed to plan for a large procession of first responder vehicles and families. As the ministering Chaplain officiating I was appalled and disappointed. People skills and empathy needs to be incorporated into the funeral staff of RNC.
We went as a group for Wreaths Across America Day in early December. After a beautiful ceremony honoring the gold star mothers we placed wreaths on the graves. The cemetery is peaceful and the landscaping is well kept.
To set the context of my review, I was heading home after participating in the XtraKredit Feed The IE project in which was actually a short drive away from RNC. I took the opportunity to visit my grandpa, to pay my respects, and to share the real and great things I have done in the month of November. I was glad to find that the RNC was open on Thanksgiving Day and it was easy to get in and easy to get out. I hope to honor my grandpa the more and more I tell stories here on Google and everywhere else that I post reviews and stories. Thank you to everyone who served, and thank you to everyone who has family and friends that served and took the opportunity on the Day of Thanksgiving to honor, to respect, and to love their buried loved ones at RNC.
