Founded in 1858, Riverview Cemetery is the final resting place of many notables and continues that tradition as an active, nonsectarian cemetery today. The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
RIVERVIEW CEMETERY, situated on a bluff overlooking the Delaware River in Trenton, was incorporated by an act of the state legislature of New Jersey on February 26, 1858.
Along its tree-lined avenues are memorialized many notables, including: Charles Conrad Abbott, archaeologist and naturalist; George Antheil, the “Bad Boy” composer; Isaac Broome, sculptor; Walter Scott Lenox, founder of the world-renowned Lenox, Inc.; George Brinton McClellan, general of the Grand Army of the Potomac and governor of New Jersey; John Augustus Roebling, civil engineer and pioneer of wire suspension bridges, best known for his design of the Brooklyn Bridge; Washington Augustus Roebling 2d., who perished in the foundering of R.M.S. Titanic; Harold N. “Bus” Saidt, Baseball Hall of Fame sportswriter; Stanley Switlik, founder of Switlik Parachute Company and inductee into the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey; and John Taylor, founder of the Taylor Provision Company, makers of the world-famous Taylor Pork Roll.
Each of those who have made Riverview Cemetery their final resting place, however, have their own place in history and their own stories to tell.
With more than 150 years of service to families in the Capital Region, Riverview Cemetery continues as an active, nonsectarian cemetery with ample space for many decades to come. These include single-grave lots for one or two interments, two-grave lots for up to four interments, and larger family lots for those that wish to be interred together. In addition to traditional burials, graves may also accommodate the inurnment of cremated remains.
We invite you to call the office (M, W, and F, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., leave voicemail other times) to discuss your burial needs, or visit the grounds (every day 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., during the summer 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and personally enjoy the tranquil beauty of the cemetery’s park-like setting.
We welcome the opportunity to serve you.
