Gorgeous spot with friendly and helpful host. We camped for a week at different spots on our way to Tahoe and this was one of our favorites. Spacious clean site. We fell asleep to running water from the creek and falling stars!!! Close to everything you want to see on mammoth area. Nearby activities: Many lakes and natural sites and mammoth all close by. Great fishing and hiking.
Awesome camp!!! Easy access to road up to Rock Creek Lake. Staff is amazing , always willing to help dump ashes and bring firewood. Not too far of a drive up to mammoth lakes. Nice option if you want to be in a quiet camp ground with lots to do.Rooms: 5/5
Great lesser-known national forest campground near Tom's Place. Plenty of trees, shade, fire rings, and mostly level spots for campers/RTTs/trailers would still bring own leveling blocks as each site varies alot. The Tom's Place general goods store also has just about everything you will need.Rooms: 5/5
First time camping in our tent in the Sierra and we loved it! I have always been skeptical about camping in this area because of the bears and just being really cold. We camped the last week of camping season in October I was hoping to catch some of the fall foliage and it did not disappoint. Clean sites there was hardly anyone there it felt like we were the only ones there. The sites are Nice in space some are small and some are huge. Restrooms were nice and clean at all hours of the day. It was just beautiful. I can’t wait to come back. Host were nice and informative. We did not see any bears, according to the host one comes down every day but because we had dogs they would keep away from our site. Sites are close to the creek. We also got snow one day it was beautiful! Best tent camping experience ever. 2nd time camping at French camp now in September the holiday king wkd. Beautiful as the 1st time we had a great time one of my favorite spots to camp at. Our site was even bigger than last time we just didn’t have that much shade during the day but we would cook breakfast and then take off to explore and do small hikes. This time around we didn’t need a heater as it was really hot during the day and we were okay at night just with our sleeping bags. We also added another husky to our pack and there was plenty of room. We love it here!
Great campsites, esp. next to the creek....please n ty of room between campsites, friendly staff...we will be back next year!Rooms: 5/5
Peaceful campground right off the road but doesn't feel right off the road. Watch out for scorpions hanging out under your tent.
Love a campsite where you can fall asleep to the sound of rushing water. Great campsite with some privacy.
Probably the best campground in the mammoth area. A true gem. It is about 20 minutes South of Mammoth on the 395. It's away from the crowds. There are approximately 85 campsites that include a fire pit, picnic table and a food storage box. Most sites can accommodate a trailer or RV. They recommend RV's under 30 foot. There are no RV hook ups. There is a tank dump facility on the main road before the main entrance. There are multiple bathrooms buildings throughout the campgrounds. They are very clean and maintained daily. There are no showers, but paid showers are available at Toms Place less than a mile away. There are multiple water faucets throughout the campgrounds that is clean and drinkable. No fish cleaning or dishwashing at these area. There is a fish cleaning set up next to the restaurant at Toms Place.
Great quiet location. Most sites have a descent distance between each other and the best part was the bathrooms were kept and flushing. People were respectful. Would have given it a five if there was an RV dump station which I saw a sign for but couldn't locate. Would definitely recommend to stay here if your in the area. Sites are a little tight if you have an RV or trailer setup, warning signs say nothing over 35 ft.
Paying $31 and hearing the highway is not my idea of an ideal campground. That said, it’s pretty and well maintained. The night prior I stayed at BLM Horton Creek for $8 and had beautiful sunset views, less noise pollution, and clean bathrooms. Next time I’ll try one of the campgrounds further up Rock Creek away from the highway. I was worried about those being too cold but based on how warm I slept at this campground I don’t think it’d be an issue going to higher elevations. I think it really depends what you’re looking for - I’m more into dispersed style camping and this clearly isn’t that. Would be nice maybe for families or people who want easier access to town.
