Rocky Mountain School of Photography RMSP is an excellent place to learn photography skills. I just completed the 6-week Summer Intensive SI Summer of 2023. The summer before, I took a 2-day Photoshop class. The staff is solid in their knowledge and very helpful. They are clearly oriented towards long-term success by helping their students learn and succeed. The program is nicely organized and the staff is good at cultivating a fun and supportive atmosphere. They do an effective job by first teaching something and then having the students practice the skills. There are always assistants nearby to help with the learning. I highly recommend both the program and the school!
RMSP Summer Intensive was an incredible experience. Experienced instructors, wonderful facilities, and a great location. Our group became close and it was so great to study with people who love photography as much as I do. I highly recommend signing up for this life changing experience!
I attended the Summer Intensive program in 2023. Attending the Summer Intensive program was the single best educational experience of my life. The program is well balanced across technical, creative, and practical instruction. A few examples of what I learned: + Technical: how to keep everything in focus in a landscape photo; Editing how-tos in Lightroom; How to manipulate light with flash, bounce, and umbrellas. + Creative: Creative challenges like turning single shots into multiple image collections that tell a story. + Practical: Helpful knowledge like the pros and cons of different print labs - with samples from each one; Legal basics and contracts for photographers. In addition to the outstanding educational program, there’s the staff. And the support they offer. The staff are all accomplished photographers and will illustrate concepts with their inspiring photography. They will also check in with you to ensure you are part of the community, you are getting the support you need, and that your expectations are being met. What’s truly mind blowing is this support, guidance, and community doesn’t end when you finish the program. My photography is significantly better after attending RMSP. I feel confident in my photography and I also have a solid foundation upon which to grow. Thank you, everyone at RMSP for what you do everyday.
RMSP's Summer Intensive was a life-changing experience! After years of reading manuals and watching YouTube videos, I still had just an inkling of what I could accomplish with my camera. SI 2023 changed that - I now know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it! This is a great investment for any photography hobbyist. I highly recommend RMSP.
I had an awesome experience at RMSP for SI 2023. Instructors and assistants were able to create an atmosphere of collaboration that greatly helped the learning process. As the only student from outside the US, I am especially grateful for the extra help I got from staff and fellow students. Thank you!!
Honestly, unless your dream is to be a wedding photographer, RMSP is kind of a scam. Save your money, watch a few youtube videos and buy yourself a nice camera. Sadly, these guys are just scraping by and/or just pocketing all their tuition fees. They have no decent equipment to speak of, no nice inkjet or laser printers, and the strangest thing of all, there are ZERO photographs on their walls. None. They don't make art, they make money, or at least that's how it was explained to me by one of their guys. Which actually kinda fits once you realize the founder's son is sitting on about a quarter mil of astrophotography equipment sorry bud, you should never have let a guy like me anywhere near your classroom. I lasted about 2 weeks. Final straw for me was when they told us all to go to Kinkos to print out a form, get it signed and bring it back. That's when I just stopped. Sorry guys, but it's 2023, get with the rest of the world. Seriously.
Attending the Professional Intensive program at RMSP is probably the best thing I have ever done. The instructors and support staff really care about their students and it shows! If you make the decision to attend, you have an opportunity unlike any other - total immersion in all aspects of photography as well as website design, marketing materials, video editing, and business essentials for 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week, for 8 months and you can't find that experience anywhere else. That being said, you have to put the work in as you get out of the program what you put into it. I can't recommend it enough if you are serious about turning your passion for photography into a career.
I took the Professional Intensive program in 2017. It was 100% worth every penny. They over delivered on everything that was promised and helped one on one whenever it was needed. I genuinely felt like they wanted each of us to succeed. I completed the program and left feeling entirely prepared to run my business. Looking back now, several years into my business I feel like I jumped over so many obstacles by going to school. I didn’t have much to learn the hard way. It’s really a Disneyland place if you’re passionate about photography and the business of it. Ran by real people who care about doing an extraordinary job teaching something they really love too. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
I cannot say enough good things about this school! RMSP genuinely cares about the success of their students. They are continually making changes to each and every program they offer to provide the most current and best education in photography possible. That's rare... and it's so special. If you'd like to be a professional photographer and want the most comprehensive education you can find, look no further. I graduated in 2010 and have been earning my full time living as a portrait and wedding photographer since 2015. I'm blessed to have a profitable career that I love, and I'm so fortunate to have gained my foundation at RMSP. Forever grateful for my experience and time there! On another note, it's located in Missoula, MT which is just magical in itself! If you're on the fence, just go! You won't regret it!
Love that I was able to attend their program, Summer Intensive . Their program encouraged and developed my skill set in photography. All the instructors were extraordinarily knowledgeable, patient, and only wanting for your success. I would holy recommended RMSP as the best school of instruction, in the development of ones photography skill set, and journey. Most importantly, they truly are for your success. You in turn, gain knowledge and make life long connections and friendships. p.s. BEST PHOTOGRAPHY EDUCATION EVER
