Very tight driving spaces and hard to maneuver this place, but this cemetery is my second favorite after Bonaventure. Beautiful marbled statues and mausoleums. The place was so large and hot that I could barely see a fraction of it. The best plan is to park outside and walk in, but if you come to see Duane Allman grave drive down and park by the train tracks. Also, humans make good food for plants and wildflowers
Wanted to walk around Macon today after work and decided first on The River Walk Park with accompanying Heritage Trail. I don’t really recommend that walk, interesting but decided to check out this cemetery. Very peaceful, tranquil, beautiful, and historical here. Many gorgeous plots Of people from the 19th and 20th centuries laid to rest here. Many paths to walk along and admire the stone and marble headstones, pillars, and obelisks. Much attention to detail in these carvings as well as the iron works surrounding the plots. If you do choose to come here, please be mindful and quiet in respect to people there, both in this world and the other world.
The best peaceful place to understand the importance of the history of Macon County. Since 1840 the cemetery looks in great condition and clean. Excellent place to walk around and see how important these people are to the city.
Driving through the cemetery is a nightmare and they should block off some of the more dangerous areas. You will literally have a matter of inches between your tire and a 20 foot sheer drop off. Also the QR code on the gate for the map of the cemetery requires you to sign up and pay $5 which is pretty tasteless.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree

Beautiful cemetery. The lady I spoke with at the office was very sweet. The paths are narrow but you can drive around if you don't want to fight the hills. Beautiful scenery all around. I especially Iove the layers to it and all of the little steps to get from one level to the next. Be careful though, some are loose. There's a lot of history here like the Allman brothers and band member. The Hebrew burial ground was interesting and my favorite spot in Rose Hill. I can't read or speak Hebrew but it makes me want to learn. My little girl is very sensitive, she particularly feels for the children's grave. She laid dandelions on the children's graves when she spotted them and would tell me what she thinks they would be doing if they were alive today. So sweet. I recommend it to anyone who has a little extra time for a stroll. There's also flag that you can go towards to get to the soldiers area. It's a nice memorial with some informative plaques. I think there's something for everyone wether your a history buff, photographer or just needing to get in a few extra steps for the day. Family friendly, even my kids love walking around and imagining who the people were or could be today.
Beautiful and full of history. Many, many historically local, state, and nation figures and families are here. Well maintained. Great walking areas especially if you like hills! Great architecture and really transports you back in time!
Beautiful cemetery. So much history. Gregg Allman, his brother and another band member are buried here. Worth the trip if you're passing through Macon. They hung out here by the railroad tracks and wrote many of their songs.
Wonderful place for a stroll. Great views of the city and a lot of the older graves sites are cool to look at. You can also see the river. Worth it for the history!
There are congressmen and rockstars buried there. Also, the lay of the land helps to mute the sounds of the city. If you drive in a little ways, it's suddenly a little quieter, and a little more peaceful. It's really something that must be experienced. It's a beautiful place to walk or run, and it's on the National Registry of historic places.
