I went in due to some congestion in my ears that has been making it very difficult to hear. Its been 3 weeks with this and I have tried SEVERAL home remedies before even considering making an appointment. I finally had enough and called in to make the appointment. The woman at the front desk was very nice and considerate on the phone, even though I am having these hearing issues. She got me an appointment same day. Wait time was 15 min. Everything seemed to go smoothly until I went back to the exam room. The nurse practitioner I had seemed cold and unhappy with her patients. Though I told her I was having hearing problems she still proceeded to talk low while introducing herself, so I couldn't catch her name but she is an older lady with copper hair and she wears glasses. She proceeds to ask me questions, standing 5 feet away from me while doing so. Again, nurse the reason I am here is because I can't hear, come closure please! Then the examination. She concludes that the fluid is behind my ear drum and she doesn't know what to do with this information and goes on to say that she needs to leave the room to figure it out. After her return in which she went to ask another nurse about my condition without permission!
I am v disappointed by my experience at SXU Health Centre. Whilst the one reviewer noted being treated coldly, and I too was treated coldly by a different NP, I do not take a cold personality as necessarily a bad characteristic as long as I know the care provider knows their "stuff". A few years ago I had an ENT physician who patients thought was cold, but he knew his "stuff" and his medical students knew it too. My two disappointments, rather, stem from a seemingly not wanting to treat patients. Granted, maybe I misunderstand the purpose of the Health Centre, and then it is my fault for being seen at the Health Centre. Firstly, when I communicated symptoms I was told to go to an urgent care and "it is not appropriate" to communicate symptoms via email. I was hoping, instead, the NP would have said, let's get you in, run some tests, and see what is objectively going on, particularly now in a time of COVID-19. Secondly, if the NP did not want to treat me then she could have indicated that in a friendly and merciful way; are those presenting with something a nuisance? I do not know, but that is how I felt in my experience. SXU is imbued with mercy, and to experience dismissiveness rather than mercy is disheartening indeed.
Called in for a last minute physical and was able to get scheduled the next day. In and out in less than 30 minutes despite it being my first time there. Great service!
The nurse practitioner Eileen McCann is wonderful! Very clean facility.
