Keep in mind we have only been once but we both were very impressed!! Everyone was very helpful. I get somewhat nervous in new situations but the staff told us exactly where to go and what to do. The family changing area was helpful because both of us were with her and did not want to be separated. My daughter Skye had a blast! The teachers were super friendly and let me help my daughter feel comfortable even though I was not the parent in the water. We started and ended on time. The place was clean and VERY VERY warm. I have already referred a few people.
My 2 year old initially did swimming and gymnastics 2x a week . I dropped her from swimming only because it was a mommy and me class and I felt like they weren’t teaching actual techniques it was mostly singing songs and stuff but I felt like that was appropriate for her age . I will definitely be singing her back up for the summer when she turns 3. As far as the gymnastics she LOVES it they have slides balance beams play great music and the teachers and staff are very polite and attentive. The tuition is also not that bad for 4 classes a month. They also have moms night out … nerf night and holiday themed days it’s really cool u get to meet moms that have kids the same age as yours and I just love this place .
We LOVE it here. My son started swim classes at about 9m and he was so comfortable and happy with the environment and with the teachers. Ms Alexis is our favorite but all the teachers we have encountered are great. Their pool chemistry has been great for us too. We can always get a make up class when we miss so there is no pressure to go boarder line unwell.
My son and I have been taking swim class with Alexis at Salem Gymnastics and Swim for the past 1.5 years. The instruction is excellent and extremely personalized to the benefit of both the parent and student even in a group setting. The progress my son has made is amazing and he is excited showing off his skills! Thank you and we look forward to continuing our swimming journey.
Our family has loved Salem Gymnastics & Swim. We have been there on and off for 6 years for swim lessons parent/child swim and the independent 3+ classes and gymnastics parent/tot, Tumbleweeds and Beginner Girls for our 4 kids. One of our girls was incredibly anxious and scared of the water and being apart from us we’re talking throwing up on the pool deck at the thought of swimming without mommy. Alexis, the swim director, has been incredibly patient with each of our kids. I especially appreciate that she explains the “whys” of what they’re doing in the parent/baby swim, as it could seem like you’re spending an awful lot of $ to sing songs in the pool. That’s not the case - she has taught me that everything has a purpose! Our 3 oldest girls are now strong and confident swimmers after having gone through swim classes with her. We couldn’t be happier! And it doesn’t get better than Coach Jeff for gymnastics for young kids - his energy and enthusiasm for little ones having fun while being active and becoming confident in their gross motor skills is just so amazing. The facility itself is beautiful. But mostly we are so thankful for the people that make Salem the special place that it is.
Alexis is a wonderful swim instructor. She is awesome with my daughter and is always giving helpful tips during the lessons. She tells us what our goals are and helps us to reach those goals. I can definitely see progress with each lesson. I appreciate her dedication to help train the little ones to learn the skills of swimming and being safe around water.
We love Salem Gymnastics and Swim! We started coming here when our baby was 5 months old and having her in swim classes from such a young age has been the best choice. Not only has it helped her to love the water, but it has helped us as parents know how to keep her safe while swimming. We look forward to it every week!
Our swim instructor, Ms Alexis at Salem Gymnastics & Swim, is absolutely fantastic! Not only is she fun and patient with our children but her instructions are clear and easy to follow and she goes out of her way to explain why things are done they way they are. She clearly has a lot of experience and enjoys what she does. We feel very lucky to have her as our swim instructor.
We have been taking our son to swim lessons here since he was 6 months old. He is now 2 years and we have thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Salem Swim. Alexis is a great instructor and we feel that she pushes the children to learn, develop, and grow in the water. It is important to her that parents are comfortable with their children around water and that they are learning for their own safety.
**Review exclusive to swim program. Our daughter did not take gymnastics here** Before touching on the issue that makes this a one star review, I want to speak on the year that our child attended swim lessons at Salem Gymnastics. First, the monthly cost for four 30 minute classes is very expensive. Additionally, the kids would often get in the pool a few minutes late and exit a minute or two early. In the year that my daughter attended, most of which was in the same time slot, she received instruction from at least 6 different teachers. There is no continuity from a staffing perspective. It feels like a lot of college kids with little training take this role. I'm paying top dollar for classes, I expect top level instruction and this wasn't that. From a skill standpoint, I noticed there wasn't a lot of progression which I think speaks not to our daughter's effort/engagement but more so to the above issues outlined. While most of what I have to say is critical, I do want to point out that Ms. Keri is absolutely fantastic. A few weeks ago, we switched timeslots to accommodate our daughter starting pre-k. When we arrived for swim with the new teacher everything began fine. Our daughter went into the pool and began lessons as normal. We noticed that she got scared of something. We later determined a light came on in the pool and it spooked her. From a combination of what she said, we saw, and the teachers saw/said, she kicked the teacher while trying to move away from the light. The deck leader should have brought us in or ended the lesson but did not. We watched as our 4-year old hugged the teacher's neck for the next 10 minutes because she was obviously frightened. At the conclusion of the class, the deck leader spoke with my wife and stated that "We can't have children hurting teachers", as if my 4 year old, who has attended 50+ classes with no issue, intentionally hurt someone. A flailing kick is not an act of malice; that deck leader should really know better. Then the deck leader stated that our child would need private lessons and be moved down to a level one despite her being in level two for months. This person, who is basically a shift supervisor, evidently thinks they have unilateral decision making ability. Following that conversation, my wife requested for someone to contact us. After waiting for four days, we reached out and the Aquatics director called us back. She relayed the information that we were already aware of; however, after speaking with Ms. Keri and likely reviewing the video if there is one reached back out to apologize to us and agreed it was accidental. There was a genuine attempt on her part to make it right for us, which I'll keep private. We ultimately decided not to continue with lessons here in light of the handling of the entire situation and the lack of skill progression that we feel is more a reflection on the program than our child.
