What an amazing experience. Went here for a couples massage. Walked out feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. The place has an amazing atmosphere and ambiance to it. The staff is wonderful, welcoming and friendly. The salt cave massage room is comfortable with low lighting and music. My masseuse was wonderful. He made sure to ask all the right questions about past and present conditions as well as areas I would like to focus on. We were never rushed to leave and were able to recover in a semi private waiting room with water and tea. The store was also full of wonderful items that were priced very reasonably. Overall it was an amazing experience that I will definitely do again.
For my birthday, I was given the wonderful gift of a spa day for myself and my daughter who lives in Santa Barbara enough for two 90 minute massages. We were so looking forward to this! I called at least a month in advance to book our massages and carefully noted the date end of April and time in my calendar. On the day of, when we were on our way there, I received a call from the spa asking if we were coming and telling me that we were late for our appointments. Our appointments had been changed without my consent or having been informed. After a heated discussion in which my word was questioned and dismissed, It was agreed that we could come in and experience the Salt Cave and reschedule the massages for a 25% discount. We went to the spa that day, spent the 45 minutes in the cave and the massages were rescheduled for 1:00 on Saturday the end of June. In the middle of May, I needed to change that appointment to Sunday, same weekend, at 1:00, again noted in my calendar and the 25% discount was confirmed. A couple days before this appointment, I called the spa to confirm the time and assure that the 25% discount was still noted. I was told that no, our appointments were scheduled for 3:45. I was shocked that this was happening again as I knew the appointments were scheduled at least 6 weeks prior. Again, the heated discussion. My daughter and I decided to get our massages at 3:45 even though it was not a convenient time for us that day. We went in, relaxed in the salt cave again for 45 minutes and had our very wonderful massages. A woman named Ghina was at the counter when we checked out. The first thing she said was, "I can give you a 20% discount but not 25%." She also insisted that it was my mistake writing down my appointment when I changed the day from Saturday to Sunday. I know that is not true but she essentially was calling me a liar. We did not get the discount promised, were made to feel angry and tense after our massages, and left there not at all relaxed. It was not a good experience and I would not recommend this place. There are many other options for spa days in Santa Barbara.
Its so true after covid happen services everywhere seemed to be horrible. After reading the reviews here I guess I'm going to go somewhere else. I was about to booked an appointment for my daughter and I.This is sad I really like the salt cave but its the only salt cave I've ever been too. I cant really compare? can someone recommend a good place? I would love a great spa day !
Let me start by saying that this experience occurred 3 months ago on June 24, 2022 and now 3 months later I am finally able to put it into words. I have lived in Santa Barbara for most of my life and I am now living in Europe. For my very last day in Santa Barbara, I decided to spend it at the Salt Caves with my best friend. I booked a couples massage for us and a facial for myself. At the exact moment that I walked into the spa, I received several distressing text messages indicating that my 12 year old daughter was possibly in danger. Initially I called my husband to see if he could handle it and he said that he would. However, I was unable to relax as the treatment began and felt that I needed to check my phone to make sure that everything was resolved. I told the masseuse to stop for a moment while I checked my phone and to my horror, things had escalated and were much worse. I NEEDED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. I apologized to the masseuse and told her that I would be back to pay and my friend would stay to continue her treatment. They also had my credit card on file My friend enjoyed her massage and waited for me to come back and pick her up. In that time, the facialist indicated to her that she could take my facial. The manager however stepped in and said that that would not be acceptable and that since I had been the one to book it, only I could have the facial. She then proceeded to trash talk me to my BEST FRIEND, that if I knew that there was going to be an emergency that I shouldn’t have booked a treatment. Dear reader, ask yourself when you have had the foresight to plan your EMERGENCIES one month in advance… I do not believe anyone plans for their house to burn down or to have a heart attack one month in advance and books a facial for that exact same moment. But maybe I am living in a different reality than this woman. When I arrived back at the Salt Caves, I went straight to the desk and asked to pay and they said it had been taken care of. I was very confused and said that no, I left without paying and need to pay now. She told me that the manager had already processed my card on file. The manager then, upon overhearing our conversation, came over and scolded me for the situation. Number one, A MOTHER WILL ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF HER CHILDREN BEFORE CONSIDERING OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES Number two, my card was on file Number three, my friend was still there receiving treatments. Imagine the exact same scenario in a restaurant setting. As long as one person is still at the table to pay the bill, the server does not care who ordered what or who ate what as long as there is still someone from the party to pay the tab. But beyond the lack of common sense applied here, it is the lack of compassion that has struck me so deeply and compelled me to leave this review. In the year 2022, that someone can be so cold and cruel towards a woman who on her last day in her hometown, who had every intention of making it a good day, had the terrible misfortune to suffer an emergency deserves to be treated so poorly and trash talked to her own friend is beyond me. No empathy. No compassion. And at the end of the day who suffered here? The business was paid. I made sure to tip the masseuse and let her know that it was not her fault. Why did the manager feel the need to kick me while I was down?
TLDR: RACISTS My friend and I came into this store while browsing around downtown. For context, I’m Asian and he’s South Asian, and we’re both students at UCSB, if that wasn’t clear enough to the store employee through our UCSB hoodies. Basically, there was no reason for any normal person to be rude to us. As soon as we entered, one of the employees I believe she was either the owner or manager started glaring at us. She glared at my friend and I the entire time we were there, making us feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. I picked up an item to inspect it—said lady goes “Don’t do that.” The store had other customers too lol and they were all white, and yet my friend and I were the only ones getting glared at and monitored without even a smile or friendly gesture from any of the employees. We left shortly after, not wanting to support a business with such outdated and offensive values. For anyone who believes I’m being dramatic, then at least let your takeaway be that this shop has terrible, inconsistent, and discriminatory service.
This place has a very wonderful and relaxing Himalayan salt therapy session. It lasts for about 45 minutes and you need to book a reservation in advance for the best results. It’s nice, quiet and the very ambient music played in the background sets the mood perfectly. Some of the products they sell look really nice and we ended up buying a spherical salt lamp. I’d recommend this place if you want a cold and relaxing rest.
Seriously one of the best massage experiences I've had! Starting with the atmosphere, the tea lounge prior to massage was already relaxing. Then my husband and I did the couple massage in the Salt cave. Stacy was my massage therapist. And let me tell you, she was fantastic!! I explained my problem areas and my sensitivity to massages. She was very gentle and understanding. I hated to leave the table once my time was up. I will definitely be going back!!!
During my last visit to LA from Texas, I visited this place about 1 yr ago. I loved it. The energy of the staff was GREAT and others that were visiting the salt cave at the time was great also. We were all connected like one community. It was a fantastic experience! While there, I bought the Foot Rescue Balm, which was AMAZING... so much so, that I recently ordered again 5 days ago, and bought 3, thinking I was buying the same product because the website is still advertising the product that I bought a year ago, but that is NOT what they sent me. They are advertising the old product, but selling you something else Body Balm, and it is not the same ingredients either. I haven't used it yet, so I'm not sure how well it measures up, but I am displeased at being sold something different from what I chose to purchase on their website. Additionally, I purchased the Himalayan Salt Green Tea Mask & it was only 3/4 full for $28 I gently rubbed my finger across the mask contents to apply a little to my face and it made a hole leaving the jar approx 3/4 full. What is going on? I've posted a pic below. This used to be an upstanding place, with upstanding products. I'm not sure what is going on now. Depending on how they rectify this issue will determine if my review goes back to 5 Stars. Everyone makes mistakes now & again, and I understand that, therefore their level of customer service will make or break my relationship with them. At this point, evidence of integrity & accountability is what I'm looking for. I've posted a pic from their website of the Foot Rescue & a pic of what they actually sent me. Typically the first ingredient listed is what the product contains most. What I originally purchased - Foot Rescue Ingredients: Pure Himalayan Salt, Bee’s Wax, Cocoa, Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint Oil What they sent instead of the Foot Rescue- Body Balm Ingredients: Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Beewax, Cocoa Butter, Himalayan Salt, Peppermint Oil, Tea Tree Oil.
Experience not as expected. Salt cave is worth $5, not $25. Just simply not worth it. Staff was nice though. Would like a refund
I've been here many times over the past 10 years for cave sessions, facials, and massages. It used to be great. I don't know if they just haven't recovered from COVID or if it's management changes, but in the past year and a half I've had three scheduling issues with Salt. The first time was pretty minor, my confirmation email said 4pm, I got there and they said my appointment was for 4:30, not too big a deal. The second time my friend and I were getting facials at the same time and my tech came and got me and I asked where my friend's tech was, and they told us she was running 5 minutes late. I got my facial and an hour later and it turned out that my friend's tech never came. Then the third time was the worst. I had a massage scheduled for later in the month, but was my back was hurting pretty bad so I called and asked if I could reschedule it sooner. I was given an option for Saturday or Sunday. I chose Sunday. "Ok, great, you're all set for Sunday at 4:30!" I came in and was told my appointment had never been rescheduled, and the manager, Gina, said I "must have misunderstood when I called." How could I misunderstand that? It isn't even so much that my massage wasn't rescheduled, that I had driven in 20 minutes to get said massage, that I was leaving still in pain, but for the error to not even be apologized for and for the blame to be placed on me for clearly their mistake is just ridiculous. So after about ten years of coming here and recommending this place, I'm done.
