We had a great time camping here! It's a small campground with amenities that include an office that sells wood bundles and bags of ice and offers sports equipment to borrow, movies on Saturdays, two pools, playground, basketball hoop, volleyball net, horseshoe pit, trails to explore, and access to the river for tubing. The pools and restrooms are in need of updating. There were a bunch of bees at the pool drinking the water each of our kids got stung without messing with them, they were minding their own business swimming. For the price of staying here, we would definitely come back!
This campground is acceptable for what it is. There is the potential for this place to be a great campground. We don't regret camping here, but will not be coming back. We have a popup camper and needed hookups. This place provided all of that. However, as other reviews have mentioned, this place doesn't enforce rules. Quiet hours are merely a suggestion, and folks turn up until 4AM on Friday nights. Music blaring from disrespectful campers until 10PM. Fights and arguments can be heard from across the campground, cussing and whatnot while kids play in the field during the day. This could have been stopped easily, had an employee stopped by. Honestly, our stay wasn't terrible. We have also experienced much better locations for the same prices. This is not a horrible place to camp, but I believe this location draws in the younger/party crowd on weekends. If you're looking to relax and enjoy nature, save yourself the heartache, and stay in your backyard. Saturday nights there is a "movie night" on the field, and it's right off sites 1-7 and is horribly loud. I understand what they are trying to do with this, and don't hate the idea of it. I don't think it's something that should be done while camping, just got to the drive-ins. Furthermore, I will say, the campsite itself was big, clean, shaded, and well maintained #47. There is also a very shallow river about 10 minutes walk from the site we were at which is absolutely beautiful, and we spent most of our time there. Firewood was softwood, but inexpensive from the camp store at $5 a bundle. We went through about 1 bundle an evening.
Nice place! Lots of walking paths. They have full hookup but those sites are on the end of a field with no shade and are generally smaller sites. Also, the sewer connections are just sorta holes so you get that sewer gas smell. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The forested sites are better.
I found this park randomly and have loved it since. It has trails and access to the river. The dogs and I love walking along the river, nice shallow spots togo in or you can fish deeper out. Large open fields, Theresa couple portapotties and the firepits with benches.
Great little campground with nice river a short walk away. Bathrooms need a lot of work though.
Great quiet campground. Has pool, river. Most site with sewer are in a field in full sun.
Easy walk, beautiful views, follows a river the whole way. Trail was very easy, great for dogs and kids. A lot of ticks due to brush on either side of the trail. Just a part of nature, though
2 mile round trip with nice river views throughout but not a sense of wilderness with the active campground and the scattered benches, picnic tables, etc. Maybe that's a plus for some so whatever pops your tent
My local favorite two swimming pools three large primitive group sites we should have more campsites like this in the area like this one
Well, we had 2 days in the rain, but the location was ideal. It was a pull through spot with trees all around. The sites all faced a large field with a volleyball net and horse shoe pits. The fire rings were very nice made of actual stones, a classic look when most places use a tire rim looking thing. The bathrooms were basic, clean surfaces, but a little run down. There is a nice parking area near the river walk the surrounds the campground on 2 sides. The area near the state park was beautiful green country side. During the rainy day, we visited 3 different vineyards on the Connecticut wine trail, our favorite was Jonathan Edwards. All in all, a good camping experience and I'm sure we will enjoy it even more when we are not getting rained on the while time.
