A real neighborhood hardware store. Doesn't carry everything that the big box stores carry but has unsurpassed customer service. Can find most things homeowners need. Great place.
The long time employees are always extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The newer, younger ones have room for growth in all three aspects but that is understandable
Great hardware store if you want that personal service unlike the big box stores. Also like that they supply California Native plants.
This is generally a pretty good store, and I like it a lot. My problem comes in with the key making. On several occasions I’ve had keys made that didn’t work, and I had to return them and have them made again. Most recently I had a key made for a property I have on the east coast. I had the key made and shipped across country. Only when they needed to enter the property did they realize the key didn’t work. Left me in a really bad spot. I had a key made here once before that also didn’t work but it was for something close by so I was able to come in and have it remade. Not possible this time. I’m moving soon, but if I was staying close by I’d never have another key made here again.
This is one of the best neighborhood hardware stores in San Diego. They are much larger than most neighborhood hardware stores probably the size of a small Home Depot. The pricing is very reasonable and the service is exceptional. Even though I live close to and Ash and a Home Depot. I always come to this store first. They almost always have what I need and I can get in and out in less than half the time of the Home Depot. This particular building has been a hardware store on and off ever since I first moved to San Diego back in the seventies. It is so nice to have a neighborhood hardware store that provides almost everything I need for repairs and projects around the house.
So good to have it close by. It got all the essentials I need for a quick DIY job at home. Staff was very friendly and quick to help with advice. Thank you!
I think I found the one American hardware store that doesn't offer a military discount. The cashier was awfully unpleasant too. The floor staff was helpful, on the other hand. But Home Depot is less than ten minutes awayeast or west and they are better in every measure, price, customer service, and the company is military friendly. I do not recommend this place.
This my local store and I go often to try and support a locally-family owned business. The employees are very nice, but this is less of a hardware store and more of a basic need store. I will need to go to the big stores for bigger projects but, I will be back if I need a paint brush, duct tape, and gardening supplies.
Incredibly helpful team without being stalkers. Every time I need something they take me to the aisle, ask questions to help narrow down and give a recommendation. This is not a super store so selection can be limited but I love supporting local and these guys rock!
I walked into the store after being at Home depot and not finding what I need. There were 3 people standing at the register talking. One girl greets me with "hi, how are you?" I greeted her back and kept walking. Quite frankly, in a brand new hardware store the greeting should be more of, "Hello, Welcome to San Carlos Hardware, is there anything I can help you find?" After walking the whole store looking for what I was looking for. I spent 10 minutes there and walked out without even being recognized. The clerks still chatting away at the counter. Big disappointment to me being that this is a new store in a neighborhood I have lived in 43 years.
