Sand Lakes Quiet Area connects to the North Country Trail and from there you can hike to North Dakota or Vermont! The Sand Lakes have pristine crystal clear water. Trails are well marked and offer miles of moderately easy hiking. Michigan Park Pass required for entry and can be paid for at trailhead information sign. Outhouse available at trailhead. Ample parking.
Good Trail marking with a map at each intersection. Not a great area for photo's unless the spring wildflowers are blooming. The lakes are wild and many covered with Duckweed so not especially picturesque. I saw runners and hikers in abundance so it must be popular.
Great place for a hike. The trails are well-marked, well-maintained, and easy to follow. Equally important, it is easy to get back to the parking area. Miles of trails to choose from. Great in summer when the weather is nice, and in the winter for skiing and snowshoeing.
Great place for a backpacking trip however lots of people have left their trash all over, very disappointing. Come on people, leave no trace! Back again! February 2023 winter camping. We have been helping clean up every time we go noticing less trash these days. Keep up the good practices, leave no trace! Playground: No play ground, just awesome nature trails and beautiful blue lakes. Some lakes stocked with brown trout all lakes fun to fish. Restrooms: Vault toilet outhouse Dog-friendliness: People love to walk their dog here Picnic area: Lots of nice places to have a picnic but bring a blanket or table because those things won't be found here. No grills found out there either.
Very rustic, an excellent experience even in winter time. Just bring hiking boots.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Guaranteed a great place to fish. It's on the blue trail so you may see others. Parking is free with state park sticker. No restrooms. Short hike on an uneven trail.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Loved it! A long walk/ hike for sure the longest route but getting to do it in mid- January is huge!!
We trailer in to the Sand Lakes Quiet Area Trailhead every chance we get. The snowmobile trails are right there. #LetitSnowLetitSnow Restrooms: Portapotty like structure at south end of parking lot. Dog-friendliness: Lots of dogs bring their people here for walks.
A place that holds up well to its moniker. Very quiet and well maintained trail. Don't think we even heard chirping birds! It was a very pretty autumn walk. Very easy to find, a lot of parking, and even a bathroom. Outhouse, that is, but those who are into this stuff know that something like this is a bonus, not always a guarantee! Enjoy the hike and day when you go here!
I love this place. Nice set of trails and a bit of a bonus as the North Country Trail runs through. One day I would like to fish the lakes.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
