The Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River provides opportunities for student and faculty field research and environmental education programs.
In May 2013 Sarah Lawrence College entered into an alliance with the Hudson River Valley Environmental Education Institute, which has operated the Beczak Environmental Education Center on the banks of the Hudson River in downtown Yonkers. The collaboration enables the College to establish a research field station and facilitate faculty and student research while continuing environmental education programming about the river for school and community groups.
Plans for the Center include student and faculty research in Ecology and Environmental Studies, and academic work in multiple fields in the downtown Yonkers location. Sarah Lawrence students will also intern as instructors of environmental science on site for K-12 students, providing support for the existing education programs staff.
The Center for the Urban River offers many opportunities for interactive educational programs to help children and adults to understand the complexity of the Hudson River and to encourage them to become part of the solution to maintain this great river.
