Worked here for one day due a better opportunity presenting itself and was told at hiring that I would be reimbursed for my fingerprinting. When asked about it after resigning, Kelly laughed and said “you quit…so I’m confused about what your asking..did you use us for fingerprinting I payed for or a discounted teaching certificate I worked there for ONE day?!? How could I have used you when it cost me more to work there . I was blown away, if a job tells you that you are going to be reimbursed for fingerprints and then change their word because you didn’t work for them as long as they would have liked, that’s not okay. That should be conveyed during hiring and in the policy that there is a certain amount of time you have to stay employed to receive reimbursement, fingerprinting was 130$ bucks after tax. I would never recommend anyone to this agency for teaching pre-K. I’d rather work at a daycare and do the teacher I was partnered with was awesome though wish I could steal her for where I work now.
I have worked for SCOPE for three years now. I have held the position of Assistant Director, Permanent Substitute, and Group Leader throughout my time with this company. If you like working with kids, this job could be a perfect fit for you. Although I plan on completing my Master's Degree this year and looking for a full-time teaching position, SCOPE has been a great place to work thus far and I am very grateful for all of the wonderful people and students I have met. Overall, I highly recommend working for this company!
Prior to my employment with Scope, I worked in a OST after-school program in Queens. I have to say going to Scope from OST was a painful descent. The pay was better in the city, especially for anyone with a college degree. I heard that employees with graduate degrees in the city program were making over twenty dollars an hour. Yet, I met people at Scope with graduate degrees, working as aides for 10 dollars an hour. In addition, the working conditions were much better in the cities OST programs. The city offered so much more activities for the children and also allowed the staff to choose which activities they wished to engage in with the youngsters. Such as dancing, sports, literacy, science, arts and crafts, etc. The only activities offered at the Scope location where I was placed were very cheap quality arts and craft projects. Staff in the OST program also had a lot more freedom to make decisions such as discipline, or choosing to take the children outdoors on nice days. They also worked independently in a classroom. At Scope you will spend the entire afternoon in a school cafeteria with the supervisor dictating your every decision. If you enjoy working with children and live in or close to the city, I highly recommend seeking employment for afternoon work there. Also, aides in school districts are usually paid much better as well.
