I have gone twice and will continue to return to Ewers for my dress clothes. Bob is a phenomenal salesman who knows what he's talking about, which is a huge help for someone with as little fashion sense as myself. Both times have been an enjoyable experience and I have come away with excellent clothing that fits me well!
The owner is a great, friendly guy who knows his craft. He also gave me some free collar stays when I forgot to pack mine for an Iowa City wedding! The clothing selection is a bit more traditional, however, it covers all the bases.
I came in looking for a suit, and Bob got me suited up with exactly what I wanted. The recommendations on the outfit styles and other clothing items to go with the suit were really helpful. The tailoring took less than a week. I'm definitely coming back for more!
If you can do zero stars then I would. For 12 years I have gone in here and shopped on occasion, to be dismissed at every turn for no apparent reason. Guess I got 'sized up' when I walked in the door. The men in this store have courtesy and respect issues. There are so many small business stores closing, why would you want to be rude and dismissive to people who want to spend money? Today the male was rude and dismissive yet again. No good things to say here. I am confident you can find better items elsewhere and even online if need be. Oh and the comment that "we have been here for 108 years" - wow that is your reply. Move up in the world and go elsewhere.
I called for alterations on a suit and was interrupted multiple times throughout the call trying to discuss what needed to be done and the timing of the finished product. I will not be taking my business here as I was disappointed in the treatment I received over the phone. I could not even get words in to ask about how long the tailoring process would take before being rudely interrupted. I understand people's busy schedules, but being unable to have this conversation with a potential customer is unacceptable.
I can't say enough positive things about Ewers. The man who has helped us every time we visit is extremely kind and knowledgeable. The quality of their items is unmatched and the quick turnaround for alterations was quick and easy. Will definitely return
I have been going to Ewers for over 30 years. I love this store because it is literally the last classic mens clothing store in Iowa City!! Bob is wonderful and he always makes you feel special when you walk in the store. Quality threads for the hipster or the regular guy who just wants to look respectable and comfortable. Thank you for being there for us.
A HUGE thanks to Bob, owner of Ewer's! He was absolutely wonderful helping us find a complete ensemble for an event in New York City. We were shopping on Friday and flying out Monday. My husband needed EVERYTHING - shirt, pant, jacket, belt and shoes. Bob helped us choose the perfect look AND was able to hem the pant and press everything by the next day. After wandering around Von Maur aimlessly with not a soul to help us, Bob was heaven sent! You just don't find that kind of personal touch and service these days.
