Honestly, this store is a great little store, with a huge passion for corals and fish. I recently bought an established 40 gallon AOI cube reef tank from a coworker, and it needed some TLC. I knew that he had bought a hot pink bubble tip anemone from Woody's after he bought the tank, some 3 years ago, so I got curious and decided to check them out. I'm really glad I did! Since then I have picked up some of my favorite tank members from them, and I'm working on putting together a custom 35 gallon AOI cube reef tank that I plan on stocking with fish and coral from Woody's Seahorse Aquarium & Supply. From unique invertebrates to fish with big personality, they've got what you need. Just check out my tank! Here's my list of stock from Woody's Seahorse Aquarium, and when I set up my 35 gallon symbiote cube, it will grow even more! 7 Sexy shrimp 2 Bubble tip Anemones 4 Rock Flower Anemones 1 Cleaner Shrimp 1 Marble Star - Jawdropping color, and this guy scavenges all around my glass and rock, carefully lifting up his legs to avoid trampling corals in his path 1 Porcelain Anemone Crab 2 Trochus Snails 2 Astrea Turbo Snails 2 Cerith Snails 1 Scarlet Hermit Crab 3 Common Hermit Crabs can't remember name exaclty haha 1 small Bird's Nest SPS Coral frag 1 Fungia Plate LPS Coral - in my top five favorites for sure! 2 Ricordea Yuma Mushroom Corals - One of which has doubled in size since I bought it about a month ago 2 Ricordea Florida Mushroom Corals 1 Colony of Sunny D Zoas - Began with 7 polyps a month ago and is growing 3 more 1 Colony of Rainbow Hornet Zoas- Began with 11, now 12 after a few weeks 1 Colony of Pikachu Zoas- picked up today, 5 polyps 1 Colony of Utter chaos Zoas- picked up today, 3 large polyps
Tery and Tusely are fantastic and very friendly and knowledgeable! they've got great selection of corals, fish and equipment, and if they don't have it they're generally able to order it for you. They really took the time to answer all of my questions when I got my first reef tank. They do get busy sometimes and if you're needing some explanation or more in depth info, they may have to pause the conversation to help another customer real quick, but always come back to make sure you're questions are indeed answered!
Amazing place! We were staying at an Airbnb across the street and wandered into it on our walk on our first day. The woman who owned it Tulley? gave us amazing recommendations for the city and everything she recommended was perfect. Must visit if you’re in the area!
Decent priced healthy fish. They seem to know each indivual personality. Nice looking rock. Also 1$ zoa polyps were nice quick grab and perfectly acclimated in my newly cycled tank.
Cool place for fish and corals. Bought a 4 inch bubble tip anemone and two mos. later it divided and now I have three gorgeous bubble tips!
I hate to give this place 3 stars. It's an awesome store with a great selection of corals and fish. They probably have the best selection of equipment and dry goods in Portland, which is crazy considering how small the place is. Despite all the great stuff they have, one of the owners is not very friendly. After one bad experience a couple of years ago, I was determined to try again, thinking it was possibly a bad day. I've gone 3 or 4 times since then and every time has been mostly the same. The woman is amazing... She will remember your name after like 2 visits which is a really friendly gesture. You can tell she truly cares about the customers and the fish she takes care of. The man on the other hand seems annoyed at every question you ask or comment you make. Every time I've gone here, the guy has made me feel like I shouldn't ask questions or try to have a conversation about aquariums/corals/whatever. making me feel fairly unwelcome. The reefkeeping hobby is HARD. The last thing someone wants, especially someone new to the hobby, is to feel afraid to ask questions. I never visited when Woody owned the place, but from all I've heard, he was passionate and friendly about reefing which I tend to believe, from reviews and the fact that his daughter the woman above is also that way. Its unfortunate that only half the shop still feels/acts that way. So yeah, that's why I can't give them 5 stars. I hope the guy can figure his stuff out... I'd really love to keep giving these guys my business but I can't justify it anymore. If you want a friendly environment with really well taken care of corals, cuttlefish is the best alternative in Portland.
Absolutely superb knowledge and loyalty. We appreciate those who treat the customer with the utmost respect and show appreciation towards our purchase and support.. however it's not often we see the store or owners any respect or concerns towards their live animals or wellbeing. This business and the two helping me whom I think are owners absolutely do. They explained the importance of giving the right environment for their fish and when doing aquarium of this type requires patience and persistence as well as consistent accuracy. Thank you for being trustworthy and I will definitely be coming back as a loyal customer
We started our first nano saltwater aquarium and the people here are so friendly and helpful. Even though the building looks a little rough the quality of fish and coral is amazing.
It's a garage that has been turned into a saltwater fish store. It's one of the coolest set ups I have ever seen. It's pretty small but somehow still has the best selection of fish and coral in the Portland area. And the customer service is unmatched. They are super knowledgeable and friendly and I feel like they genuinely want to help. Definitely my favorite saltwater place to go to. I live about 45 minutes away but it's worth the drive.
Tulley and Terrance are very friendly and knowledgeable people this was my first salt water Aquarium they help me out big-time I would totally recommend this place to anybody they have a different variety of saltwater fish and seahorses and supplies very good place to go I have jellyfish and I didn't really know nothing about these wonderful creatures and they helped me big time.
