My mom spent several weeks here. Overall it was a good experience. She progressed quickly thanks to the great PT, OT and Speech therapists. The nursing staff was knowledgeable. The CNA staff took care of her many needs. The doctors were diligent to check on her regularly. They did good to make sure my mom was helped in every way and ready to move to the next facility for her care. I recommend going through the paperwork to verify the accuracy at the time of discharge. There was old information from entering the facility that was still on the paperwork at discharge and we didn't catch it until arriving at the new facility so we had some sorting to do. That was a minor issue though, I realize there is a ton of paperwork that gets written and it wasn't a huge problem, just caused some confusion at the next facility. I still highly recommend Select Specialty Hospital West Allis to anyone needing this level of care. As a visitor I always felt safe and welcomed there. The staff was very kind to me and happy to answer my many questions. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I was also able to bring in my own food and microwave it in the vending area.
Great nurses, great care! I spent about a month here, April-May. Everyone was very accommodating. If you require this type of care, choose Specialty Select in West Allis WI. Special nurses: Michelle, Marena and Sarah,,special aide: Diane. All staff friendly and willing to help.Great PT and OT . My mobility has improved since being here.
So far this is the best facility my mom has been at. The entire staff deserves kudos for providing top notch care. A nurse named Katie soon became a family favorite. Also, case manager Becky made the transition of care smooth and hassle free. Great job by all!
The hospital is clean. The staff is good. The food is great. PT and OT is great!
PT OT support is outstanding ... dedicated, quickly able to access patient needs and capabilities, caring and compassionate. Fun to visit with as they work ... Shirley has been especially helpful ... often returning to give my wife additional PT on days when she had a little down time between scheduled sessions.
I had covid and other health problems and I am on a ventilator. The team here at Select has been good with handling the complications that have popped up the respiratory team is amazing and very caring they helped make a scary situation less scary Joe and Mary are outstanding caregivers.Aric in speech is a very warm and caring person he really takes the time to explain things. Marisa is a fantastic nurse. The only down side is they are under staffed and that can at times effective the level of care but not enough to put anyone in danger just a little in convenient. Overall I am have a good experience here.
My daughter went to the OBGYN portion of the hospital yesterday for excessive bleeding and severe pain. It took 5 hours for them to do an ultrasound. She was there 13 hours and they did nothing for her except treat her rudely including the Dr. Her Dr told her today to never go there again and gave her meds to slow her bleeding. She had a procedure done last Monday at a hospital near her home. Unfortunately she was here. Visiting and had to go there. Nobody should be treated like that by medical staff just because they are understaffed. This is just terrible.
My experience at select specialty hospital has been outstanding. The nursing and other clinical staff is excellent - they react in a timely fashion and are happy to explain medications, procedures, etc.Kelly from the Wound Center, and Lisa and Linda from PT/OT are to be especially commended for their skills and caring. I can’t speak highly enough about this hospital and the caring personnel who work as a team to provide the best patient care. Sue Ann Walczak
The nurses and the CNA's have been exceptionally kind and helpful to me. Often asking me if I need help or if I need to be cleaned up. The physical and occupational therapist have also been very caring. The doctors and other specialists have come daily to address my health problems and treatment options. I am very happy overall.
I would not put a loved one at this hospital, there are a few amazing people that work here, but there are way to many that are not good. My dad was taken out of St. Lukeswhich was an amazing hospital and put in this hospital. He went here to learn to be able to eat again after having been on a trachea, and learn to walk better. He went from talking, smiling, and walking from his bed to his chair, to passing away after a month of being here. The first time I went here it was not very clean, rare you seen a nurse or anyone come in the room. There was one respiratory therapist that was horrible, three of the times I visited him she was there, she was rude, didn’t listen to concerns, and had a horrible attitude. There was also a nurse there named Emily that I talked to on the phone, she was telling me all about how my dad was so nice, he was doing good, only thing is she was talking about the wrong patient! The next day I talked to her again, which it’s rare you ever have the same nurse more than one day at this hospital and she said she was worried about his weight, I had just been there and he had gained weight. I told her this, she looked at the computer and said “oh your right!” I talked to the head of this department, a lady named Becky about my dad, telling her how he has been going downhill since being there, I asked what they are doing for therapy. He was only put in a chair to sit. She said he’s sick and can’t do much else. We had been there the day before, he played tic tac toe on a computer with my husband, and was throwing a ball back and forth with him. She also told me she’d take a iPad in his room and call me so I could see him since I lived so far away. She never did this once, and never called me back the next time I called. I definitely would not recommend this place, and I do believe if my dad would have been put somewhere that took care of him, he’d still be alive. I do have to say there was an amazing lady that would come and take my dads garbage out. She would always tell him a joke, and took time to see if we needed anything. Thats more than most of his care staff did.
