Native Connections is designed to prevent and reduce suicidal behavior and substance misuse and promote mental health among children and youth.
Sinte Gleska University's Sicangu Native Connections knows that suicide prevention should be a reservation-wide priority and that in order for us to see an effective transformation, services must be consistent, dedicated, timely, on-going and on a collaborative basis. Our goal is twofold: 1) to design a cohesive and collaborative approach to mental health; 2) to institutionalize the approach so that all tribal and other agencies acting on behalf of the Sicangu Oyate work to reduce substance use/abuse among all residence so that an improved environment leads to a reduction in mental and physical illness, especially a reduction in suicide completions, attempts, and ideations among children and youth ages 5-24.
