Nice Indian restaurant. You will love the ambience as well as food, quick service and friendly staff
Pros: Restaurant is rather large and nicely appointed. Ambiance is pleasant. Food was seasoned well and had good flavor. Portions were very respectable. Service was accommodating; we were one of only three tables occupied. Cons: Appetizer was served without one of its condiments. No time was allowed for us to enjoy our appetizer as entrees were served immediately following appetizer. Other than the naan, which sadly was burnt, neither entree ordered tasted as though it was freshly made. Everything was dry, overcooked and served only slightly warm perhaps reheated not quite enough? This might explain how/why it arrived so fast.. There are so many eating establishments of this cuisine type in the area that I would not likely choose a return to this one.
I have been coming to here for years and have never had a bad experience. Every visit now has been as good as I remember my first visit in 2009. The owner is from India and has had this restaurant according to one of my Professors for close to 2 decades if not more. A restaurant that lasts that long on the Ave clearly has earned it's place. Just the aroma walking through the door makes me angrily hungry. There is a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes from the Indian sub-continent that are all amazingly flavorful and filling. The chef is always willing to tweak the spice level above the normal 1-5* system if you ask for it, but you should expect to be lit up.
We had an office lunch. The order was well packed and on time. All the food was delicious! The owners family? were polite, eager to help me pronounce what I was ordering, friendly, and a joy to chat with. Can't wait to bring my family here.
The ambience was great and the staff was friendly but the food is the most important of all. It was good but did not satisfy my craving for the food I wanted. That happens very rarely to me. Same happened with my wife and we concluded that although the food wasn't bad, it was mediocre at best.
Very nice ambiance. Parking is usually street side but we did not have a problem twice we visited. The host/owner was amazing and very welcoming. Very decent Kababs. Specially loved their spicy chicken kababsforgetting the actual name on menu. Their gravies are great too. We tried their Goat Karahi and Jaipuri Chicken gravy. Both would be great choices on any day. I prefer Hyderabadi Biryani but their Biryani was pretty decent too. Naan is a little dry and heavy - you could make a meal with one naan alone. Ask them to butter your naan if possible. And yes, they do serve Halal meats! Completely satisfied!
I must have been to Shalimar for over 10 years. It has never disappointed. Classy atmosphere, fantastic food and very good service. Mr. Yousef, whom I got to know after many years, is a gentleman, and he is very focused on giving his customers a great experience at great value. You should have the standard Indian fare here, all well prepared. If you are adventurous, try the chicken tika masala pasta. You'd be very pleasantly surprised. I'd always come back here.
Shalimar is THE ONLY proper restaurant on this street so that's a plus for that establishment Everything else around- Asian fast food joints. But let's consider geography- university area so poor students I had a very disent meal, had better Indian cuisine on my life but I was pleased. Very well priced and service was ok.
This is an average Indian food restaurant whose prices seem a bit high. I ordered takeout and two of the vegetable curry containers were loaded up with giant pieces of potato. Literally each container had 1.5 potatoes in them. That was disappointing that they would load up a take away order with giant potato chunks. I felt like I did not get a good value for my money here.
The service was good but the food was hands down the worst indian food I've had. I got lamb tikka masala and it tasted like tomato soup with a handful of sugar added in. The garlic naan also tasted like a fist full of sugar. The chai tea had zero flavor to it, the color looked right but tasted like steamed milk. And to top it off the prices were on the very high end.
