Sheridan Park Friends is a volunteer non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the preservation, enhancement and enjoyment of Sheridan Park for present and future generations.
We are affiliated with The Park People of Milwaukee County, Inc., along with 45 other park friends groups. The Park People act as our fiscal agent.
Sheridan Park Friends aim to instill a sense of "citizen stewardship" of Sheridan Park people of all ages, particularly by cultivating connections with Cudahy School System and youth involved in the Cudahy municipal court system. Students will learn about responsible use of and care for Sheridan Park. We hope to leave the Park nicer than the way we found it.
Activities like weed-outs to eradicate invasive plants help to preserve Sheridan's unique ecosystem. Bird walks build appreciation for the special feathered friends that visit Sheridan. Trail hikes reinforce the importance of staying on the official paths to prevent erosion of vulnerable areas (particularly the lake bank). Efforts to tidy the Pavilion (through gardening, weeding, cleanups and advocacy for maintenance and investment) keep the space attractive and preserve a sense of safety so that more residents want to visit Sheridan Park. Members reach out to the public, welcoming visitors to the park, serving as guides and coordinating programs. Members also monitor safety and communicate dangerous situations to law enforcement, summer rangers and Parks system staff.
Above all, Sheridan Friends will promote public access to Sheridan Park. The activities above will make the Park more accessible, safe, hospitable, and attractive to all members of the community.
Our mission is the preservation, enhancement and enjoyment of Sheridan Park for present and future generations.
