I grew used in a small White community in the 1970s/80s: The history I was taught in school was very incomplete. Shorefront is a great resource for filling some of the gaps in my education and broadening my perspective. Hearing the stories of how Evanstonians impacted the community and the broader world makes me feel more connected to the town I’ve chosen to call home. It also helps me better understand why things are the way they are.
What a great asset to the Evanston community. The archives are full of history pertaining to the North shore's Black population. It is incredible. Dino Morris the founder has a wealth of knowledge and is a great story teller. Definitely an important visit if you are a history buff, researcher or lay person interested in hearing a good story.
We went there as one of the stops in our family reunions tour. It was a GREAT experience! Learning of the rich, African American history in Evanston, Along with my own family's personal history in Evanston was awesome!! It was Truly one of the highlights of our family reunion weekend.
Shorefront Legacy is at my church Sherman United Methodist and it is ran by the owner CEO of Dino Robinson who I've had the pleasure of going to school with him and see his company grow, the wonderful work & history he has done. AWESOME JOB DINO!
A hidden treasure for the community to explore Evanston's history. Dedicated members of the community volunteers their time to maintain the culture and history of the community. Highly recommended for the African American Community!
Great resource for learning more about Evanston's African American community. If you have a specific question, call ahead so the director can search for materials before your visit.
