Building Balanced Men
Originally founded in 1948, SigEp at UMaine returned to campus in 2002 after a short period of inactivity. They regained their charter and became a Balanced Man Chapter, based on the principles of a Sound Mind and a Sound Body. It was then that they showed the University and the community that they were not the typical fraternity. Having the only dry house on campus, they achieved the highest fraternity GPA, won several intramurals, and had members and leaders of Student Government, IFC, ROC, the Sophomore Owls, Senior Skulls, and Order of Omega.
Since that time, Maine Alpha has continued their tradition of hard work and winning. For the past 20 semesters, they have had the highest GPA out of all the fraternities on campus, averaging a 3.41 in the Fall of 2010. They have also won the BC Kent Intramural Award for the past 3 years straight. These achievements, on top of the innumerous hours of community service and the dozens of campus leaders they have, all contributed to them being UMaine’s Fraternity of the Year for the past four years.
