Welcome to the SJCC Early Childhood School on Mercer Island, part of the Stroum Jewish Community Center.
The SJCC Early Childhood School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy. The Early Childhood School's developmentally appropriate curriculum for children ages 3 months through kindergarten is a blend of stimulating play and challenging experiences within a supportive environment where children feel welcome, comfortable, and nurtured, and where they grow as individuals. Children enjoy music, art, movement, storytelling, and, for older children, swimming in the SJCC indoor pool. Shabbat is celebrated every Friday with song, stories and challah. Enrichment classes are offered in yoga, dance, martial arts, and sports skills.
To provide a diverse Jewish setting that constructs possibilities for the emergence of each child through a collaborative learning process. Children are encouraged to test their theories of the world so as to develop a love of learning, a strong sense of self-reliance and a strong foundation for critical thinking. We are guided by a richness of Jewish tradition and values, as well as developmentally appropriate educational approaches.
