The School of Information at San Jose State University has been awarding graduate degrees to information professionals for more than 55 years.
Today, the school offers two fully online graduate degree programs for future information professionals, a teacher librarian program aimed at K-12 school media specialists, an advanced certificate program with an emphasis on strategic management of digital materials, a post-master’s certificate program for working professionals who want to stay current with emerging trends, a continuing education program for those who just want to take one or two classes as part of their professional development plans, as well as an international doctoral program in partnership with Queensland University of Technology.
The Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program is fully accredited by the American Library Association. Graduates of the MLIS program pursue a variety of exciting career pathways in many different organizational environments including librarianship, emerging technologies, and information management.
The Master of Archives and Records Administration (MARA) program is a unique graduate program designed for students who want to pursue leadership roles in information governance and corporate archives.
The Teacher Librarian program course work is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The program is a second credential and can be completed as part of the MLIS degree requirements.
The Advanced Certificate in Strategic Management of Digital Assets and Services is a nine-unit program designed to help working professionals manage the changing information landscape, specifically the integration of digital and physical assets.
The Post-Master’s Certificate in Library and Information Science program features seven exciting career pathways focused on updating the skills sets of working professionals. Students who complete the program earn a certificate, and courses are recorded on their San Jose State University transcript.
The Open Classes program offers continuing education and professional development opportunities for information professionals. Individuals can enroll in one or more of the school's fully online, graduate-level courses on a space available basis and earn college credit.
The San José Gateway PhD program is a part-time doctoral program offered in partnership with Queensland University of Technology, one of Australia’s top research institutions.
All programs are delivered online, and the iSchool is a recognized leader in online education.
