Skunk Train

About

The Skunk Train transports passengers through the Redwood Forest of Mendocino County, with departures from Fort Bragg and Willits.

Description

Come ride the SKUNK in its natural habitat. Forty miles of skunk line run through majestic Redwood forests, scenic mountain meadows, and over 30 trestles bridging the pristine mountain waters of Northern California. Celebrating 129 years of service!

"Step back in time for a magical ride through the redwoods on the world-famous Skunk Train. Since 1885 the historic Skunk has made its way through old-growth redwood groves, over scenic trestle bridges, through spectacular tunnels, and into the heart of the Noyo River canyon. Today’s riders enjoy the same pristine views that have remained largely unchanged for well over a century."

Excellent experience. The train was a nice ride. Smooth for a train. Able to walk around while in motion and not play Pong with the walls! The last stop before turn about is beautiful! Highly recommend. The concessions lady was informative and exceptionally nice. They have an "open top" car where you can feel the fresh air and see more or the surrounding area. *must check out
Absolutely Magical! We truly had a great experience. Live music from a very cheerful singer and guitar player. Snacks and drinks were available too. The views were amazing and the history was very useful and entertaining. There is one stop which allows you to get off and explore some ruins, then you head back to the station. The back open cart is awesome during the summer as the breeze keeps you cool. 10000% would recommend
We opted for the VIP tickets on the steam-powered train, and it was well worth the price. The conductor and the other staff members were polite and respectful. They let our dogs ride the train with us, which is the reason why we chose to ride the train. It was a great experience with lots of good views. The sandwiches that were made for us and given to us in the customer ice chest were great as well. One tip I have that I didn't know til the very end of our trip was, they put little round wooden disc's in the front pocket of the ice chest and those are used on the train for any drink that you would like. Also, since we took the 11:30 train, they offered to let us stay at the drop-off point and ride the 3:00 pm train back. That would have been good to know beforehand because we would have prepared for that. I would have loved to walk around the grounds for a couple of hours rather than rushing off the train, eating quickly, and getting back on the train in about 20 minutes. We will be going back again to experience one of the longer train rides in the future.
The tour guides were absolutely amazing and the bikes were fun to ride! My issue with it was that you ride for about 25 minutes, then hang out for 50 minutes in the middle to hike, eat, whatever you please, and then you ride back. For the price of $300 after fees and taxes per bike, it really isn’t worth it. It was a cool experience but it wouldn’t be something that i’de do again.
My wife, four children, and I rode The Skunk Train recently, and had a blast! Cards on the table here - the kiddos partly liked it just because it looks similar to the Hogwarts Express. That wasn't the only reason they enjoyed it, though. We enjoyed the beautiful - albeit short - trip through the majestic redwood trees while eating popcorn on the open-air rail car. We then disembarked to explore the forest and play giant games in event area. Unfortunately, each ride is only scheduled to give you about 20 minutes in this area before the train leaves back to the station, with the next one not coming until two hours later. We opted to stay until the next train came so we could have more fun together and quite frankly, to try and get our money's worth. After the train departed, we experienced the splendor and serenity of a calm, quiet forest with very few people around one benefit of sticking around the extra two hours. We went on a short hike to explore the beauty of Mother Nature and were not disappointed - it was gorgeous! We finished our time in the area by playing giant versions of Checkers, Jenga, and Connect 4; we also enjoyed a few rounds of Corn Hole! Overall, this was a very fun trip and my family made some amazing memories together. The only reason I gave this a 4-star review instead of 5-stars is that it is VERY expensive for what is included, so plan to spend time there to "recoup" some of that cost. For my family of 6 the tickets and popcorn cost over $400. Had we not spent some extra time taking advantage of beauty of nature, that $400 would have been for only about an hour long experience.
Overall great experience, but I think it would have been good to know that the weekend train you can take it at 6:30, 730, or 830. Just a heads up the 6:30 PM train on the weekends for the bar is very crowded. I think you could use two bartenders to serve drinks on the train. The ambiance at the Glen Bar is so fun! It would be good to advertise s’more kits and bringing snacks is okay! We had a great time! Love the fire pits, games and music! Thank you!
We can’t say enough good things about our experience on the Skunk train! We did the nighttime 21+ train to Glen Blair Bar. It was an experience we won’t ever forget. The space was beautiful and large. There also are two open trails through the woods. It was such a unique experience to be hiking through the woods at dusk with a drink in hand! They also have free popcorn on the train!
My husband Marvin and I had an amazing time on the Rail Bikes this past weekend! We had two amazing tour guides Grace and Ian and they made the trip worth it! We loved the first trip so much that we went and booked the night package for the same night and did not regret anything! Thank you Grace and Ian for being amazing and making the experience 100% better for Marvin and I! 10/10 would recommend this to anyone!
We loved this experience!!! The bar was beautiful, drink were good, and the music was perfect! All in the beauty of the redwoods. We hiked the trail, and enjoyed the area. We appreciate that dogs are allowed. I marked down one star, as there were several kids at the bar, and the age restriction strictly states age 21 and over. We would have appreciated if you enforced the rule.
This trip was my second on the Skunk Train. The first trip was a round trip through the redwoods with my family. It was a very memorable experience. This trip me and my husband took the Skunk Train to the Glenn Blair Bar. The train ride was very fun, full of great sights and photo ops. The bar was almost magical. We were in the middle of the redwoods with hiking trails all around fire pits and the bar itself was a huge barn like structure with no walls so it was all open and lit up with small lights that were strung all over the ceiling and throughout the fire pit area. I definitely recommend it for a date night.
