Richmond Station

Description

Richmond Station is an at-grade Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and Amtrak station located in Richmond, California. Each system is served by an island platform. The Capitol Corridor, San Joaquins, and California Zephyr stop here and connect to BART. The station was rebuilt and rededicated on October 18, 2007. The Metro Walk - Richmond Transit Village is adjacent; north of the station is a BART rail yard. Richmond is the north end of BART's Richmond Line; the Richmond - Millbrae Line operates Monday-Saturday during the daytime (although the line does not travel south of Daly City on Saturdays) and the Richmond - Fremont Line operates at all times during regular BART service. This station has been identified as an important hub in the transportation network for metropolitan and statewide planning.HistoryRailway service to Richmond started around 1900 when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) opened the western terminus of its line near the port where the rail company ran ferries to take passengers across the bay to the city of San Francisco. Around that same time the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) opened a station just south of the current station at MacDonald Avenue. BART service at this station began along dedicated tracks that paralleled the SP line on January 29, 1973. Amtrak service to the station started, using the SP line's tracks, in early 1978. A station house for the Amtrak service was constructed in 1984. A transit village and rebuild of the western approach to the station was started in 2007 and a dedication ceremony was held on October 18, 2007.

The history, the creation of the community we want to live in is happening. Not without growing pains, and yet good marks an effort shows well for Richmond California and her residents! . Ty, BoomerNaut AKA Dan Goog Maps LG VII
Transfered from bart to amtrack, entrance is not super clear. Its a small staircase inside station. It's not the large stairs which lead to the street. Edited w. Pictures.
This is a portal to two distinctly different worlds. At one end you have the now abandoned BART parking lot and are three other end a brand new gentrified housing development. The contrast is not easy on the brain
Busy station. Lots of the homeless are within the station making it unsafe. Maybe more police?
I wouldn't come here if I didn't have to. You wouldn't want to spend your free time here. In other words, the city is not safe.
Not the safest station- no security, not a good area, not a lot of foot traffic nearby, no separation between amtrak and bart. So you're alone at night, possibly with a crazy person from the bart line. Not the most comfortable station- no heated areas, no totally indoor area, no escalator but there is an elevator, no food vending in station, cold steel seats albeit most are covered. Its not the worst, but ive seen podunk towns in the middle of nowhere with more amenities. Considering this is a transfer point to the bart, i expected bart and amtrak funding to combine for a much better station.
Richmond is a good place. Mind your business no Karen's or Ken's allowed.
It been second time, I took Bart to amtark connectivity. It had elevator facility and waiting areacovered roof are available to passengers. In the evenings, waiting more time near the station platform is not an good idea. No public restroom. No help desk. Video surveillance is in use.
I Was told by a BART volunteer at the SFO airport to transfer to the Richmond Station from the BART, to go to Sacramento, by train. Perfect idea. But not good for Single female not familiar with the area, was the end of the line for the BART....Went there in the middle of a rain storm in the Bay Area...downstairs station smelled like urine, homeless wandering around asking for money, food...upstairs is a small platform area, slightly covered from the elements...if you travel by yourself, be aware of your surroundings, or get off at another station... had a 2 1/2 hour wait....
It felt so good being back here at the Richmond Bart/Train Station. Even though some people say it is dirty and unclean, at the end of the day it's Richmond. Whatever happens there at the station is the product of years of oppression.
