Skylax Adventures was created to offer eclectic, creative experiences designed to satisfy our customers’ needs for physical activity, intellectual stimulation and laughter in a couples friendly atmosphere.
Skylax Adventures is owned and operated by TropicalSnowstorm, who is a Virginia-based writer and photographer.
TropicalSnowstorm, who goes by “Steve” for short, was adopted by an Inuit family when he washed up off the coast of Alaska after a failed attempt to be the first toddler to circumnavigate the world on a surf board. In line with ancient tribal tradition, he was given his name during a solemn ceremony involving a sweat lodge, bare feet, polar ice and hanging from bear claws that were inserted through his pectorals. He later discovered these were not the traditions of his adoptive tribe, but were instead based on a SciFi Channel horror movie.
As an adult TropicalSnowstorm continues to work and travel throughout the world, and his adventures have included hiking up a volcano in Ecuador, riding elephants in Thailand, touring the Ajanta Caves in India, surfing in Sri Lanka, climbing up to Dracula’s Citadel at Poenari and visiting the tombs of poets in Afghanistan. In 2005 he settled in Virginia where he met and married his wife, who encouraged him to start Skylax Adventures so he could focus on something other than petitioning to have Labor Day changed to Circus Day. Mrs. Snowstorm is a Jamaican and, in addition to being extremely good looking, can be quite persuasive...so he complied with her wishes.
TropicalSnowstorm has been leading events in the Metro DC area and around the world for over a decade. Skylax Adventures was created to offer eclectic, creative experiences designed to satisfy our customers’ needs for physical activity, intellectual stimulation and laughter in a couples friendly atmosphere.

Skylax Adventures is part of Karyanda, LLC, which is based in Lake Ridge, Virginia. Both are owned and operated by TropicalSnowstorm, who is a Virginia-based consultant, writer and photographer.
