Description

2012 Golfweek Magazine's #1 Municipal Course in Ohio and #23 in the nation!

With its spectacular views of Cuyahoga River Valley and classic layout, Sleepy Hollow Golf Course ranks as one of the great golf challenges in Cleveland. The punitive nature of the course is clearly evident by the deep ravines and 58 bunkers that can come into play on its 18 holes. The greens are clearly the main challenge on many holes. "Stay below the hole" is the best advice on these greens that can be very steep.

The course was designed by Stanley Thompson, a member of the Royal Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. It opened in 1925 as a private country club on land leased from Cleveland Metroparks and was opened to public play in 1963. The course is set up as a classic "out and in" layout. The early holes on both nines play down hill and down the prevailing wind, therefore seeming shorter than the yardage indicates. The incoming holes play uphill and into the wind making them play surprisingly long.

It would be hard to find another course in Northeast Ohio where so many holes are praised for their aesthetic beauty as well as their challenge. Hole #2 is an impressive par 3 and with the tees back, it's a driver tee shot for all but the longest of hitters. Followed by the par 4 hole #3, which stretches 481 yards from the back tee. The back nine is shorter and more strategic. It features #14, a short par 5 and #17, a short par 4 which are both classic risk/reward holes!

Sleepy Hollow has been the site for many amateur and professional events including qualifying events for USGA championships and every other year hosting the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship.

The course is extremely well kept and features scenic views throughout the round. Both sides feature challenging holes including blind shots, water and bunkers nestled near the greens. The greens can be quick and require you to hit well placed shots. Great selection of food and drinks as well.
Best Cleveland Metro Parks golf course. Great team shop and the course is well maintained. There’s a full driving range also. There’s a hall that will most likely be hosting a wedding on the weekends. The golf pro is excellent.
Not golfer friendly. If you hit 300 yard drives you have a chance at par. If you play out of 5 to 6 inch rough around the greens and fairway. Fairways cut to short. Like playing off dirt. Would not recommend for anyone.
The venue is beautiful, and my daughter's shower was wonderful! The servers and cooking staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was really good. We received many compliments on the venue, food and staff. At times, I was concerned that the event planner was not communicative in a timely manner, but he was really pleasant and polite, and he got the job done for us. We had an incredible experience. I recommend this venue!
The course is always in great shape, but I must say, the staff is unbelievable. I misplaced my 9-iron for over 3-weeks, and they still had it at the clubhouse. My buddy also lost his range finder, described it to them and they had it! If you list something there, chances are it’s still there.
I would expect a public course that charges $35 for 9 holes on April 23, to have a ranger patrolling making sure pace is being kept. $35? Is this a country club?? 4.5 hours for 9 holes is absurd. 4 guys shouldn’t be on a green for more than 5 minutes, if that. If you’re preparing for a round of golf here, do not expect to get into any rhythm whatsoever.
One of the best “public access” courses you will find anywhere in the country hence the ranking as 14th best municipal course in US. Played yesterday - conditions were superb, greens perfect and played the round right at 4 hours. Add in the friendly server running the snack bar and the amazing bargain of $35 senior rate as icing on the cake. We NE Ohioans are lucky to have such a great course to enjoy
I don’t know who rates these things but every time I play this place it’s in awful shape. Greens haven’t been mowed in days. Pin placements are days old as well. Bunkers get raked once, maybe twice a week, and if it rains, they just leave it in whatever condition the rain left it in. Pay $70 at your own risk.
Hidden gem in Cleveland metro parks. I have only had time to use the driving range but from what I saw I cannot wait to go back and play this beautiful multileveled golf course. Very busy but well-maintained.
Great course. Paired up into a foursome with two people we didn't know, first 9 was a bit slow. Back nine with good pace. Course in great shape some pin placements quite questionable.
