In 2016, OPS held the inaugural Soch: Columbia Pakistan Symposium to provide a platform for such a dialogue. Under the theme Building Resilience through Innovation, the conference successfully hosted an array of activists, artists, intellectuals and entrepreneurs who offered innovative solutions to some of the challenges that Pakistan faces today.
This year, Soch returns to continue that conversation under the theme, Redefining Attitudes, to examine the ongoing shifts in the spheres of feminism, education and politics in Pakistan and greater South Asia. Our first panel featuring Faiza Patel, co-director of the Brennan Center's Liberty and National Security Program and political analyst and journalist, Raza Rumi,
will focus on the future of Pakistan-U.S relations in light of the current political climate.
The second panel featuring founder of Zindagi Trust (and prominent pop artist), Shehzad Roy, and the Chairman of The Citizens Foundation (TCF), Mushtaq Chhapra, will explore both the obstacles preventing the spread of literacy in Pakistan and the steps necessary to overcome them.
On the third and last panel founder of Sayfty, Shruti Kapoor and women’s rights activist, Khushi Kabir, will engage in an enlightening discussion on the narrative of South Asian women and the ongoing struggle for women’s rights and female empowerment across South Asia.
Soch aims to provide a platform to the activists, artists, intellectuals and entrepreneurs who are offering creative and innovative solutions to some of the challenges that Pakistan faces today.
