Description

Social House, developed and presented by Ampd Group, is an izakaya-style Japanese lounge and restaurant. Izakaya-style is in reference to fun neighborhood pub food that is well-prepared and intended to be paired with a drink. The cuisine encompasses a range of authentic Japanese entrees made on a custom-built robata grill. The sushi bar offers the chance to watch the chef’s creations rolled and stuffed fresh. The setting is easily describable as an unsurpassable upscale eatery that gives off an inviting presence for social gatherings, drinks, and private dining.

Located in the heart of the Cultural District of Pittsburgh, Social House offers an elevated floor section for private dining events that provides stunning wall art and Japanese sculptures for an unforgettable visual experience. This area of the restaurant is in place to accommodate all types of functions, parties, and celebrations.

Social House’s menu features excellent cuts of steak, lamb, pork, tofu, vegetables and seafood with fantastic flavorful soaks, and ingredients. The appetizers and sushi options are all homemade bright and fresh pairings for each entrée. The bar serves a variety of signature cocktails, beers, and wines, hand selected to match the Japanese impressions and tangs of the pallet.

My recent experience at Social House 7 in Pittsburgh, PA, was nothing short of disappointing. Despite having high hopes for an enjoyable evening, the poor service from the bartenders, slow food service, and exorbitant prices left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Let's start with the bartenders' service, which was far from satisfactory. My friends and I waited at the bar for what felt like an eternity, a full five minutes, just to be acknowledged. It's not unreasonable to expect a timely greeting and a bit of attention from the bartenders, especially considering the prices they charge for their drinks. Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of our frustrations. To add insult to injury, we ordered Belvedere vodka, expecting a certain level of quality given the price point. However, it became apparent that we were being served Tito's vodka instead. When we received the bill, we were shocked to find that we had been charged $10 for Belvedere, a clear misrepresentation of the product. When we politely pointed out this discrepancy to the bartender, she insisted that she had served us Belvedere. It was disheartening to witness such dishonesty and a blatant attempt to overcharge customers. The slow food service only compounded our dissatisfaction. We waited for what seemed like an eternity for our sushi dishes to arrive at our table. Given that Social House 7 is known for its sushi, we expected the food to be a highlight of our dining experience. Unfortunately, the delay in service detracted from our overall enjoyment, and by the time our food arrived, we were already disheartened by the other aspects of our visit. Considering the poor service, inaccurate drink charges, and slow food service, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Social House 7 to anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience in Pittsburgh. With so many other excellent sushi restaurants in the area, there are plenty of better options available. Save your time and money and explore other dining establishments in the city that prioritize customer satisfaction and honesty in their service. Social House 7, with its extreme prices and horrible service, falls far short of the mark.
Food were tasty. Enjoyed golden curry and fried rice. Service was not bad, just understaffed. Great vibe though.Food: 4/5
Very good ambiance. We went there as a group of 20 and had a good time. However, there was only one person attending to our entire group and unable to serve all of us properly. It would have been good if they had at least two attenders.Food: 4/5
The atmosphere was excellent. The place is beautiful and the service was prompt. The food was just not what I was expecting. I expected to be hit with massive flavor bombs and it just did not happen. It was not bad at all it just wasn't very memorable. The food was lacking in flavor and the portions are rather small. The Bi Bim Bap had two very small strips of Wagyu that were delicious, the rest I could have lived without. The short ribs yaki was good but also a bit bland and the meat was sparse. The Tonkotsu noodles were slightly underdone and the portion was smaller than expected but otherwise ok. The sushi was really good and average sized. The desserts sounded delightful so we tried every one. The fortune cookie was ok. The description says it is filled with mousse and there were only two small dollops. The crème brûlèe was very bland. The tuxedo cake was really good but not extravagant by any means. Parking: It's right in the city. It's hard to find parking unless you go to a garage. Most of the garages are not tall vehicle friendly.
Waited well over an hour for any food to show up. One entree finally showed and it was terrible. Finally asked for our check because we were going to be late for our show, asked them to remove the sushi rolls. As one waitress was bringing the check someone finally showed with the rolls. Instead of comping them, she took the check back to charge for them! The broccoli app was nothing like it was in the past, limp and not crispy and heavy in sauce. Asked for whiskey and club soda, and this is the only place that can’t seem to comprehend it. They bring a sodacoke every time! Pre Covid this was our go to place before shows in the theater district, but the service, menu, and quality of food has just gone downhill. Bathrooms were disgusting. Multiple sinks and 1 bottle that had soap. No toilet paper in stalls. We will go elsewhere next time. Disappointed.
The atmosphere in Social House 7 is extremely cool, very unique. Wait staff was also great. The food was also delicious. Probably some of the best sushi I’ve ever had and the noodles were so good. The only real disappointment was one of the most average old fashions I’ve ever had for $17. If it was $9, it wouldn’t even be part of this review and it would be a 5 star review. But for $17, you better be doing that well, especially when the prices aren’t listed on the drinks menu.
I ordered tonkotsu ramen. What I was served was not tonkotsu ramen. It included three pieces of overcooked, tasteless pork, a hard boiled egg with no flavor or seasoning, and dried noodles that were stuck together. The broth was way too salty and had a spicy note mostly soy sauce, which is not what tonkotsu broth is supposed to taste like. The menu literally says "traditional pork bone broth", and that's not what was in the bowl. For the $20 I spent on that bowl of soup, I could have bought multiple packets of instant ramen that actually taste good. Or I could have gone to a restaurant in this same city that actually knows what tonkotsu is, and paid half the price for more food.
Loved everything about Social House! So unassuming from the outside and vibrant and eclectic inside! Yummy food and drinks!Food: 5/5
Fantastic experience all the way around! Servers and bartenders are wonderful. Food is delicious. We will definitely be back now that we found this placeFood: 5/5
Had such a great time at Social House 7. The atmosphere and ambience makes for such a dope vibe. The drinks were delicious the food was amazing although my Ginger Fried Rice w/chicken was just a tad bit too dry for me otherwise everything was good. Especially the service, Jayden our sever was awesome. She was very attentive to our needs, gave us great recommendations, and just made the overall experience that much better. I’ll definitely be back!
