Description

Solomon's Lodge, located in Savannah, Georgia, is a Masonic Lodge was founded in 1734 by James Oglethorpe and James Lacey and claims to be the oldest continuing operating lodge in America, It is the mother lodge of the Grand Lodge of Georgia, and between 1734 and 1785 was the only lodge in Georgia. It wasn't called Solomon's Lodge until 1776, previously being known as "The Lodge at Savannah." It occupies the Old Savannah Cotton Exchange. The first person to be initiated into the lodge was the settler and plantation founder Noble Jones. Many influential local politicians were members of Solomon's Lodge, including Joseph Habersham (US postmaster general), George Handley (Governor or Georgia) and Henry Osborne (judge and delegate to the Continental Congress). It has often been confused with Solomon's Lodge in Charleston, South Carolina, also a founding lodge for that state that was founded in the same year.

I was recently there on vacation and tried to visit the lodge. Both times it was locked up while the hours on line said it was open. I called the only number I could find while referencing the lodge and it was for someone in Chicago IL. The man was not terribly rude however quite strange talking about his family doing something to him by placing his number as the POC for the lodge. It was quite strang. Since leaving Savannah and returning home, this person spam texts and calls me quite often. I have since had to block the number. Is this a real lodge or just an abandoned building with a strange person to answer the only phone number listed to contact the lodge? The web site link does not go to a lodge website either. Glorious historical building with tremendous Masonic historical significance attached. Friendly to a fault . Anyone interested in Freemasonry and historic Savanah will truly be awestruck.
I have been inside on a private tour to see the Free Masons lodge, previously known as The Cotton Exchange, which is very rich in history and significance. The inside almost resembles a court room, with decades old documents and photos. Only the main area is accessible to tourists, that is if you are lucky enough to catch someone there!
founder deprived of full access- breach of grandfather clause. no timely response.
Our lodge was invited to a Fellowcraft degree and had an amazing time. Lots of history!
