The South Gate Art Association is a Non-profit organization whose purpose is to advance the appreciation of art by the community.
The South Gate Art Association was established in 1953 by 43 members of the community who wanted a community art gallery. It has since attracted a variety of established artists, who have generously donated some of their works to the Association's permanent collection. The association currently co-ordinates community events related to children, as well as workshops for adults, held monthly in the South Gate Civic Center, next to City Hall.
The purpose of the association was to secure and maintain a community art gallery with continuous exhibits of fines arts and crafts, to stimulate and co-ordinate creative expression by local artists, to advance the appreciation of art by the public, and to strive for self improvement by endeavoring to keep abreast of all the latest techniques, procedures and methods in the fine arts field and to aid others seeking knowledge by providing a place to meet and an opportunity to exhibit.
