The South Street Police Detail was originally activated in 1985 to provide weekend coverage. This detail has evolved into a seven day a week, 24-hours a day, year round service commitment, expanded to cover the entire South Street Head House District and the neighborhoods of Queen Village, Bella Vista and Hawthorne in the 3rd District and part of Society Hill and Washington Square West communities in the 6th District. These neighborhoods are patrolled by police vehicle, bike and street officers in conjunction with the town watch/ public safety committees associated with these neighborhoods.
The Friends is an all volunteer organization whose purpose is raising funds to support the crucial programs of the South Street Police Detail and the Mini-Station. Our ongoing goal is to support police-related capital and operational issues.
Your donation to the Friends of the South Street Police Mini-Station is tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the IRS code as allowed by law. Additionally, our “Friends” organization is exempt from sales tax. We are also able to maintain very low operating costs due to our professional volunteers.
Your donation will be used to secure resources such as computers, IT equipment, social media, police bikes and improving the environment of the mini-station by helping with maintenance and repairs such as air conditioning, heating, flooring, carpentry, painting, lighting and furniture.
Support the operating needs of the facilities of the sub-station located on South Street.
