The worker there was nice and accepted my donation of a blanket with Grace. The dogs they had looked good and cared for but they need homes! Please see this as your sign to adopt.
My experience. My spouse saw a dog when she was at a kids event. I asked her how big is it “about the same size as Leo” our other dog who is about 40lbs. We are looking for a lapdog. I also looked at their adoption fees, which are are very high compared to SF and SAC shelters for large adult dogs. Reluctantly, I was off work and she just picked my kids up from school so I agreed to meet her there to see the dog. Turns out the dog is more like 70lbs, which isn’t a total deal breaker. At this time I was pretty turned off to the idea of adopting Golden Graham, but I spend a lot of time looking at him through the fence interacting and seeing if I could bring myself to take him home. I have experience with a great pyrnees and a husky RIP so I know exactly what I’m getting in to.. Okay, let’s get our hands on him for an evaluation, if he is perfect I’ll accept his size and FUR… I go to the front desk and ask to visit with him “you have to fill out this application to visit with the dog”. I understand there’s a lot of families wanting to get a dog who shouldn’t, and there’s probably an emotional meltdown when you tell them no after they’ve met and fell in love with a dog… Then when I mentioned I had a dog at home already, I was told they couldn’t allow us to visit with the dog unless we had our dog with us. I’m not dragging my dog all over the state in the peak of summer heat while we evaluate dogs to find the best fit to add to our family. There are many disqualifying things that I could evaluate before adding the stress of another pet into the scenario. I visited two other shelters yesterday, visited with 4 other dogs that looked perfect in their cage, only one of them is still a candidate for us to adopt. Golden Graham may be the best fit for him and my family, but we will never know due to this shelter’s policies. Had we been able to visit, we may have been able to build a bond and trust to a level that I was comfortable bringing my dog in for a meet and greet, still reluctantly. With the adoption prices and policies of the shelter, It leaves me wondering if it really is about getting the dogs into good homes.
They require an application just to look at the cats. I've never been to a shelter like that. We went to the office to get an application but the staff didn't acknowledge us. We couldn't wait outside for them to decide to help us because it was over 105 degrees. Unfortunately I couldn't adopt a cat that day for those reasons.
Very professional and great place to get any pet at. They come fully vaccinated, with a microchip, and neutered or spayed. They give a complimentary check up at a local vet and if your dog or pet is sick you’ll be sent home with the meds to make him or her better. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to get my dog
Very nice people here helping animals find homes. We have been here before to donate food but this time we left with a puppy. The staff is friendly and really care about the animals. Clayton helped us and answered our questions and was very nice. If you have the time stop by and check them out. You might just leave with a pet that you save and who will love you for life.
False advertising, did not have any of the dogs posted not to mention the very unhelpful 3 girls there , asked where were the dogs thinking they would escort us out there but they sat there and we had to figure it out on our own.
Words cannot express how grateful I am for these guys. Super professional and friendly. You can tell they take amazing care of their dogs here and they take them out for walks I believe everyday. The SPCA gives dogs a second chance at life and my new best friend is proof of that. He's a Jack Russell terrier mix with lots of energy and spirit I didn't even notice he had a lame back leg. When we decided to adopt Jack that's what we named him the vet came out to talk to us and informed us on how to take care of him and his situation which was really helpful and I thought that was amazing that they care so much about the well being of the animals here. Thank you so much SPCA of Vacaville for saving my Jack's life and giving me the opportunity to love this little guy.
Great place to adopt a cat or dog. I was there to donate sheets and blankets for the animals. There is a store that different animal products can be purchased. Any support will be gladly excepted. You can donate dog/cat food, blankets, sheets, towels. You can also call to see what they might need. Please support your SPCA..they do so much good
It was first time I went there, it was raining and all dogs were in their fence but they didn't have a ceiling, so all dogs got wet in the rain and some shaking, for one of them I saw the door behind was closed so he couldn't go inside !
Today was a shot clinic for dogs and cats. I took 2 of my cats for their rabies vaccine...I did wait 2 hours, but I looked around at the dogs and cats up for adoption. I love the work that the SPCA does, and I donate regularly to this organization. I had both of my kitties vaccinated for $40! Way cheaper than going to a vet...I give them 5 stars for all the wonderful work they do!! Rescue an animal!!
