Description

Hello, my name is John Karayan. My wife Jennifer and I own and operate Spencer Makenzie’s Fish Company. Being a family owned restaurant, we named it after our two children. Spencer is our 5-year-old son and Makenzie is our 3-year-old daughter.

Spencer Makenzie’s Fish Company, LLC, started out as a fairground and festival concession trailor in May of 2007. Its popularity was quickly established with attendees at events such as The Ventura County Fair (where we won the Best Food Concessionaire Award), The Aloha Festival and The C Street Long Board Classic.

The concept for the restaurant and trailer had been an idea of mine for 20 years. During that time, I perfected our Ceviche and Giant Fish Tacos into the unique recipies that have become “the Spencer Makenzie way”. When Jennifer and I started creating the full restaurant menu our main goals were to offer high quality, healthful food at consumer friendly prices. We wanted to provide a tastier, healthier alternative to the so-called “Fast Food” of the taco/hamburger chain variety. All of our tempura is hand dipped to order and is served crispy, hot and delicious. We use only sushi grade fish in our seafood menu items. That’s why it always tastes so fresh. Our vegetables are bought from produce wholesalers that are known for the freshness of their products. Ninety percent of our sauces and 100% of our salsas are homemade, and so is our clam chowder.

Along with health consciousness, going “Green” is very important to us as well. All of the cooking oil we use (which is 0 Trans fat) is turned into biodiesel fuel for vehicles. Our plates, cups, and utensils are biodegradable/compostable.

Our family and our restaurant staff thank you all for your support! You, our customers, are always our #1 Priority!

Some locals showed us this place and we absolutely loved it. It has the best fish and shrimp burritos as well as fish tacos around. It has some great outdoor seating if you wanna watch the passing traffic and also some comfortable indoor seating as well. Their sauces and salsas are amazing and well worth the wait. The line moves pretty quick so if you see a line at the front don’t worry about it you’ll get your food in good time.
Delicious fish tacos really good sauce, perfect tempura shrimp & amazing fish/shrimp burrito. They have really good hot sauces at the tables as well, try them all they're all worth it. Super nice staff and very nice and cozy atmosphere indoors. Outdoor seating available with quite a lot of space and tables/seats. Features: Hand sanitizer available
Great atmosphere and good food. The tacos were delicious and the cocktail was loaded with shrimp. My husband got the burrito which was also loaded and delicious. Great place to stop if you are craving seafood.
TLDR: fish tacos and clam chowder were ok, needs a bit more flavor for my liking. Best thing we got were wontons Highlights: - wontons: PERFECTION. Crispy, airy and paired well with sweet chili sauce. - battered fish tacos: really soft and tender fish, accompanied with a mayo sauce. Was not a fan of the cabbage and red peppers as they overpowered the fish - clam chowder: not a fan of celery and soup was a bit bland and watery for my liking. - sauces were insanely flavorful! Sweet chili fire was perfect—tangy and sweet with a hint of spicy. The other sauces were sweet but too spicy for my taste - plenty of outdoor seating perfect for doggos - great selection of beer local tap and bottles - great choice of music Luke Combs was amongst those who were played
I guess when something is hyped up so much you expect to be wowed!! I got the tempura zucchini sticks, wontons, world famous fish taco and the hard shell parmesean shrimp taco. The only thing that was hot & decent was tempura zucchini sticks. The world famous fish taco was cold, the tortilla was either stale or overcooked cause it was hard and cracking, the parmesean hard taco had 2 shrimps and again not sure if it was stale or overcooked cause it was chewy, both tacos lacked flavor and the wontons were just meeh. I liked the chill vibe and the happy hour idea but otherwise I don't think I'd eat here again.
First time trying; for a quick bite & not cooking than Yes. They open @ 11am I'm there when they open, I get to park & order. After 11am; it's than not worth it to me. Chef 20 yrs, I'm always cooking or grilling @ homeDine in: Yes
The ceviche was really good. Most expensive fish taco I have ever eaten but worth it. Delicious. Good service. Kid-friendliness: They offer a kid's menu
Disappointed in this place. The fish and chips were disgusting. The fish batter was soggy and gross, only thing good was the dipping sauce. Coleslaw had PINEAPPLE in it….. what? Nasty. Shrimp and fish burrito was gross with white rice and the shrimp looked like a cocktail frozen shrimp from Ralph’s. And the ahi pocket was 90% rice. Would not recommend. Fish taco was not worth $8 for ONE.
Old school American dinner offering best fish tacos, shrimps, calamari and fries. Super friendly staff, very comfy place and nice music in the background. $50 for 2 including drinks and we had more food than we needed!!
Ahi pocket is interesting! But the fish tempura taco is the best, freshly fried fish is really crispy and mingles so well with the sauces
