Sprinkles Sugar Cookies began when I became a grandmother. I have such fond memories of Christmases gone by where our family received a gallon jar full of the most delicious cookies given to us by my mother in law. All the cookies were good but there was one certain pressed sugar cookie out of all of the cookies that was my favorite. I would pick through that jar and get as many of those out as I could before any of the rest of the family had a chance at them! That same recipe has been passed on to me and it is the one I use today for my sugar cookies. Such precious memories I have from being blessed with a family full of traditions that are sadly and slowly slipping away with the passing of my mother and grandmothers! It seems with becoming a grandmother or "Nene" as I am referred to now, I had a newfound desire to start a tradition of my own with my grandchildren. I wanted to keep that part of my heritage alive and make special memories for them and so that first Christmas as Nene I bought my first set of cookie cutters and made a feeble attempt at decorating cookies. I look back now and have to laugh at what I came up with! But it started a tradition and now at Christmas each year, my grandchildren, Brock, Addyson, Bo and my new grandson Harrison will get to join in, decorate sugar cookies and what a mess they can make! Because my grandkids' favorite thing about decorating is when they get to add, or should I say, POUR, sprinkles on the cookies while eating more sprinkles than they add, I felt the name Sprinkles was perfect! After a few Christmas cookie experiments and when my grandson Bo turned 1, my daughter asked that I make a John Deere tractor and Red Barn Sugar Cookies for his birthday party and that's when decorating cookies as I had knew it changed, and hopefully for the better. Because of that request for tractors and red barns, I did a google search and discovered all sorts of information on the web and realized this was a fun hobby! I was excited to know that this info could hopefully teach me how to decorate cookies for whatever theme my grandchildren chose for their birthdays! My next challenge was when my grand-daughter, Addyson turned 2 and zebra stripe cookies were requested. Once again, I found an online tutorial to help me decorate cookies for her party. Over the past 5 years I have been following websites, video tutorials and blogs from some of the best cookie artisans in the world. My oldest grandchild, Brock, now even requests special order cookies for his friends and teachers! At the encouragement of family and friends, I decided to create this Facebook page so I could share my cookies with more than my grandchildren at birthday time and holidays. Thanks to my kids, Jami and Josh, my sister in laws, Nan and Kim, as well as many friends who encouraged me along the way. Without you I wouldn't have had the courage to set this page up. Sprinkles by Terri Powell is dedicated to the women in my life who helped mold me into the person I am today. Thank you Viola Milton, Dorothy Maddox, Judy Maddox and Catherine Powell.
