St. Margaret’s is an Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school serving young women in grades 8—12. We also offer five-day boarding for girls and summer camp programs for girls and boys.
St. Margaret’s successfully raises confident, capable young women. We are dedicated to supporting an accepting community where diversity is valued and students feel like they belong, providing challenges that prepare the way for girls to believe in themselves, and creating opportunities for them to become their personal best.
All students are given the support and encouragement they need to work to their greatest potential and become independent thinkers. We operate on a seven-period, trimester schedule with a curriculum designed to prepare students for college and overall success in life. The academic structure is flexible, based on skills rather than grade level and supports a three-tiered English as a Second Language program, serving beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. Outstanding students have opportunities for advanced study, including participation in Honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Qualified students of any race, color, religious affiliation, national or ethnic origin are welcome to apply and join our vibrant campus life. Founded in 1921, St. Margaret’s is one of the six Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia. Our historic campus overlooks the Rappahannock River in Tappahannock, Virginia, just one hour from Richmond and two hours from Washington, D.C.
"As we grow in age, may we grow in grace." St. Margaret's School's motto reflects our commitment to the growth of young women in every area of their lives; growth in intellectual ability, growth in physical well being, growth in social responsibility, growth in spiritual maturity. We offer a diverse student body and a sound college preparatory curriculum, challenging to each individual. In a Christian environment, founded on the Episcopal tradition, both honor and character are developed. St. Margaret's seeks to inspire each student to make the best of herself, and in so doing, make a better world.
