St Mary's employees 2800 professionals and is a level 2 trauma center. My wife and I have both been admitted at St. Mary's. What helps hospitals grow and do exceptional work is upper management. If the staff has state of the art equipment to diagnose a patient, it makes their job much easier and accurate. During our stays, I asked the personnel if they enjoyed their job. This tells you if they are 1 treated well and 2 their state of mind doing the job. EVERY employee I talked to said YES. I can say without a doubt that I would not have lived if I had stayed at the original hospital I was admitted to. Second, my wife had a middle lobe of her right lung taken out. She came home pain free and is in very good health after only 3 days. I sing their praises. Excellent hospital, excellent staff.
Labor and delivery was super nice, went in at 2am not knowing I was in labor, they had me checked in and saw I was dilated 7 cm, they didn’t force me to lay down or sit in a bed. They asked me if I wanted anything and gave me what I wanted warm bath and red popsicles then when it was time to be moved to the birthing room they were kind and answered all my husbands questions, my OB showed up and we had a 25 min delivery from when my water broke, they accepted my requests to delay cord clamping and that my baby not go anywhere without her father present to watch and hold her through everything, I had to have emergency surgery and even then they did an awesome job at making me feel safe and that I was the only thing on their minds. Hormones were crazy and it was still scary to me but they were definitely easing my fears as much as they could! I would definitely recommend having your baby here, and they make you an amazing meal for dinner, you get a special menu and there was a dessert cart!
I never thought I would have need for cardiac care, but here I am. My cardiologist and EP are amazing, and the nurses and staff have been wonderful to work with. This last year has been scary and difficult to accept but at every step of the way, I have received encouragement and support. I hope no one needs to come here, but if you do, you will be in very good hands.
My mother is 83. She came in to the emergency center because her heart rate has been high. Up to 160. They already suspect there is something wrong but she can’t see a cardio Dr until mid February. Two months after her last emergency visit. When they checked her it was only 92 We have been here more than 3 hours. She has severe back pain and is miserable. I may just take her home.
I was treated for a facial injury in the beginning of sept. Went to triage and they got me in and out in about 12 hours i usually go to IHS and have waited up to 20 hours to be seen w a broken arm So 12 hours was absolutely cake! They put me in my own room and I had access to cable, and great food! Do you want to give a shout out to the nurse who helped me the most, Jesse! You to man! He was so attentive and made things not as scary as they actually were. All of the staff there was remarkable even in the triage. However when I was in triage I was getting blood drawn and an older man had walked in the triage as well and was getting taken care of by the nurses. I was shocked though when he asked to get the flu shot and the nurse told him he is only able to get the flu shot if he gets the Covid vax. He stared at her in disbelief and told her OK no thank you on either. That was a little scary. I think people should be able to figure out if they want to get the vaccine on their own terms.
I was born in this hospital 59 years ago. I have been going to St. Mary’s since that day. I have always received the best service from the staff. I have always found them to be courteous, kind and professional. We are all so blessed to have this hospital as part of our community. Thank you all for what you do.
Very sad there isn't better emergency services. There are times where people are waiting 6+. An elderly woman has been here for 5 hours, alone, asking for an idea as to how long she will have to continue to wait and told hopefully she'll be helped soon. Yall are supposed to be patient advocates. You're supposed to be willing to help instead, by all appearances, yall sit behind your closed registration doors, laugh and chit chat, and wait happily while patients struggle to get in and out of the restrooms because their alone. Not offered any help or water or be checked on. Trust me I understand, lots of moving parts and vary degrees of things happening behind the scene that we don't know, but you have a responsibility to people. Try to do better. Try to figure out better systems. And if even in the smallest way you are trying, you need to ensure all working here are trying too. You can preach a message but set a standard.
If there were - stars I'd go as far left as possible. I know emergency rooms really don't mean they will see you fast but they had me in a quarantine area with elderly, children and a baby. Here I was waiting for blood results for ebola and covid. I had just flew in from abroad from north Africa. I left the hospital because I needed to know I could sleep tonight.. I hope if I call tomorrow I'll get lab results. For now I pray for all those waiting to be seen and for the hospital staff.. the fault lies with some politicians somewhere who aren't looking out for the westernslope. I'm only passing through. I don't live here.
Nothing ever changes here at St Mary's. Ambulance brought mom in due to her passing out. I asked 2 nurses if they were experts on inputting IV into her arm and was told yes. It turns out the one doing it was in training and it took them 3 tries blowing 2 veins and was successful on 3rd try. Why are you training to install IV's in ER? You don't think they have enough going on that they need to put up with this? This is second time for my 87 year old mom being rushed into this hospital via ambulance in a couple of weeks and being treated less than desirable. I Requested portable commode for her to pee in her room getting sample to test and was denied by nurse/orderly. She doesn't do well going down to the restroom for whatever reason. They wheeled her into bathroom via a susan steady and bathroom had no soap dish hanging on wall, it had fallen off and had not been replaced sitting over in corner with no way to use it. I had warned them she would not go in bathroom and was proven correct. Again I asked why they could not bring one into ER room and no answer given other than they are going to pump more IV fluids into her and then take her back down again. I think they need to sell this hospital a few more times and then keep squeezing money out to pay for the profit every time they sell it. This way eventually they won't have to take care of any patients. For the amount charged for any ER visit they need to wise up and start taking care of their patients the way they deserve and pay for. Last time we were in a couple of weeks ago, the nurse/orderly did not even offer to wheel her out in a wheel chair to my vehicle. When I questioned why she offered but didn't seem interested in doing it, so I told her I would do it myself. I have been to other hospitals and they do not treat patients this way. Sad part it she brought in during the day when fully staffed not at 2 AM in the morning. No excuses are acceptable, not for the outrageous money she will be charged for this visit and her last visit. Completely unacceptable service. I will say the Dr was competent, friendly and make me feel like he was concerned about her situation. Without him, I would have given my review 1 star.
Debbie the Mammogram scheduler has a hard time helping the disabled. I tried to schedule a yearly mammogram and accidentally cried. She adhered to her INSURANCE BILLING allegiance before compassion for her patients. If there’s a problem, it’s considered diagnostic and we need an order first. I explained I was new to the area and disabled - she suggested finding a doctor to get a referral. As a hospital scheduler could she not have scheduled an appointment for me?
