I’m seeing you bad reviews about this bar and I just don’t know why. One of my favourite bars I visited during my week in Denver. Good mix of local craft beers in a nice darkly lit interior giving it the classic dive bar feel . Took our beers outside and relaxed watching the late night crowd staggering around. Probably had one beer too many as we ended up in the outdoor tiki patio drinking from palm tree glasses .
Excellent selection of agave distillates. They sell Fortaleza for $9! Great deal… However the male bartender last night was a complete jerk. The most disrespectful experience I have ever had at a bar. He took my drink away and kicked me out for asking him to split the check with my friend. I explained to him that I work in restaurants and I use Toast and I know there’s a “Split Check” button. He was on some sort of power trip and kicked me out as well as my group of 5 friends. We were literally just about to buy a round of Fortaleza shots. It’s a shame he didn’t want our business. Dude needs to humble himself and remember he’s in the hospitality business… Bouncer with the grey beard was nice though.
Really wanted to like this bar, but they fell very short. Had a great Saturday evening out a good friend, we stopped in here to grab a final nite cap. Walked in at about 1:15 am, there was 1 other patron. I asked bartender how long they would be open, and I was told 2am. Perfect. Proceeded to order a couple beers for me and my friend, which were promptly served and the bartender seemed nice. About 5 minutes later, I put $5 in the jukebox as there was no music playing pretty quiet. After depositing said money, I turned around to walk back to my table, the power was cut to the juke box seriously, 10 seconds after I walked away from it. I asked bartender what happened, and with a glazed over look was told, “sorry, call the jukebox company”. Haha! Nice! All down hill from there. Some other employee with zero people skills then proceeded to say “wrap it up, you gotta go”….with 20-25 minutes left before closing. I understand last call, but if you want to close at 1:30, post on your sign that you close at 1:30, not 2. Also maybe try not being a complete d-bag to your customers. I’m sure not everyone has had a bad experience like this here, but that was my first and last time at Star Bar.
Saw some guys literally taking a hammer to the women's bathroom and when I just looked to see what's happening a guy said "yeah i get it you want to make fun" and i said "no i just want to know why guys are hammering on the women's bathroom door I'm trying to get into." And then he pointed me to another bathroom where other women said they were treated very rudely. It's definitely uncomfortable to see that and they shouldn't treat us like we are joking. It's weird. We want safety.
Had amazing entertainment, Daniel Larson was present playing live music, and he had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Check him out on all music platforms, youtube, and tiktok!
Had a good time at this place on a Saturday night, awesome bar tenders. However as the night goes by, the drunker they think you are the prices tend to go up and the tablet is set at 35% tip when they hand it to you for a signature upon closing tab. The security guard at the door should be taught people skills and shouldn’t be laughing at paying customers when they stumble and fall out the door. Two stars because the band was great and the bar tenders were friendly.
UPDATED FROM A PREVIOUS 5 STAR. 1 Star. Avoid this area. There is nothing but problems in this area of downtown. Shootings, crime, transient. Cool spot on the edge of LoDo! Still super close to the Coors Field without having to deal with the “Market St. Crowd” No food but great drinks and you can order food to the bar!
One star only for Zach being the best karaoke DJ in town. The bartenders are god awful. Rude. Will sit behind the bar and act like they don’t see you and take forever to serve you. Too cool for school attitude. Used to automatically select 30% tip on their little iPads. I guess word caught on now they only select 25% . Bartender with the beard and backward cap is the worst. Guy has issues. Come for Zach and karaoke, leave right after.
As a midwestern bartender, this was definitely the best bar I visited in Denver. It's what I assume the city was like before everyone started moving there. Cool bartenders, local brews on draft, lots of seating, darts, ski ball, big buck hunter, and a patio out back. It's a relic of a different time in the city that I hope stays open for many more years.
Few selections on drinks and they don't have American beer. For those who want to try different kind
