Description

Steak 'n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.

For over 80 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for steakburger. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.

Today, Steak 'n Shake remains the “better burger” leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order. Other classics include the Frisco Melt, 7x7, Prime Steakburgers, and fan favorite M&M milkshakes.

The burgers are always decent but I hate being screwed in the drive thru. When you pay nearly $6 for a bowl of chilli....Food: 3/5
Big fan of the S&S franchise, seemingly can't beat a triple meal for the value and flavor. However, covid planning affected everyone. That and technology. This visit was not one of the better ones. No greeting, no cashier, no bell hop style waiters, very desolate environment. Placed my order on a tablet, waited for my name/number to called cafe-style, told they no longer serve their seasoned salt individually, only by the jar 0.0 Self serve drink and go. Underwhelming dining area with nearly every table covered in residue of previous diners. Floor was sticky in spots. Workers were concerned with drive thru and door dashers. Food was cooked decently enough but lacked something. Being next to the main hotel probably saves their sales day goals. Wouldn't seek this location out again.
Nope. I don't like the changes. The food was good. But I wouldn't know about the service. You basically wait on yourself. I had to order at a kiosk and there was no other way. I had to seat myself. I had to wipe my own table. I had to get my own drinks. There was no waitress or waiters anymore. And yet, the kiosk asks for a tip? For who? No one took my order, no one seated me, no one wiped my table or got my drinks etc. Meh. Steak 'n Shake is officially dead. There's a new franchise worth looking into if you love steak burgers. Its called Freddie's and its so much better and they have the same steak burgers and shoestring fries as this dump us better. Its worth a look if anyone want to open a Freddie's in this area. I might myself.
Our food was very good but everything else about this place is awful. Slow service, dirty bathroom, noone to wait on you, though the young man at counter was nice. Manager ignored us, no service at all. What has happened to steak n shake!!? This used to be a wonderful and fun place to go. Now I know why parking lot was empty when we arrived. I can't recommend this place.
The food was good, not great. Strawberry shake was overly sweet, but the frosted glass was a nice touch. Service was sloooow; the place seemed understaffed. No counter person to take orders; only kiosks & tablets. The dining room was clean and nearly empty with few cars in the drive-through during what should have been the "Lunch Rush" 11:45--13:30. Shake and Steak used to be something special, but as my wife says, "Yoosta bees don't make no honey." Don't go out of your way for this. It's just another hamburger. Parking: Newly resurfaced & striped Wheelchair accessibility: The tables in the dining room were wheelchair friendly.
No one would speak to you. I watched as cooked burgers sat at the next station for over 15 mins while the worker at that station ate ff and shake her butt. Even rewarmed one burger. She slapped that food around like it was ... I don't know what haha. It was utterly ridiculous how long it took to get food.Food: 1/5
Absolutely discussing. Service sucked . Time you wait for food . management was horrible. Would not recommend eating there. The whole atmosphere is completely uninviting. The manager was dirty and on phone entire time. The employees looked confused and lost most of the time . Cleanliness is Close to Godliness. But at this particul steak n shake that is completely untrue. One of the worst experiences I have had at any restaurant including McDonald's. Only gave one star cause you have to to write a review.
Tonight's visit at Steak and Shake pretty much made me decide that I'm more than likely never going back here again. We pulled up to the drive-thru at 8:04pm. and there were three cars in front of us. By the time we made it to the box to order it was 8:27pm. Twice the girl told me to go ahead with my order and after I requested the first thing she told me to "hold on" both times. I'm thinking maybe she had been a new employee or something because she kept stopping and asking the woman that she was working with questions. When we finally got our order placed we pulled up to the window at 8:43 p.m. it was the other lady that our order taker kept asking questions. She went over the order and asked a few questions herself because our order wasn't properly taken. When we got home we opened the bag and realize that the barbecue sauce we had asked for was open and spilled all over the inside of the bag and inside the chicken strip box. We also notice that all of the fries were half full and they were soggy and cold, the Patties on the burgers were so thin & small that it was pretty much just a bread sandwich and lettuce was dark green wet and Soggy. It was probably the grossest meal I've ever had. I'm not usually one to call and complain but I think I'll be calling the manager in the morning. I'm disappointed that I had to write a negative review I enjoy doing these reviews on Google Maps and 99% percent of the time they are all positive feedback. I can't believe that I waited as long as I did and that drive through I'm really not sure why I didn't leave to be honest. I'm sorry it had to end this way.
We went tonight and ordered two burgers and a chili Mac. We waited an hour from putting in the order online. We went to the drive thru and told them we had an online order. Then went to the window where they didn’t even give us our drinks, they told us to go park in the handicap spot up front and wait. We did and after 20 mins I went in. The girl at the counter wouldn’t even speak to anyone that came to the counter. She was like tweaking out like she is on drugs saying she is overwhelmed and wouldn’t speak to no one. Even the cook after taking a drive thru order you can hear her say “it’s not gonna be quick because I’m 25 minutes behind” mind you the place was barely filled with anyone. It was highly unprofessional and I’ll never be back to this location.
One of the ladies that worked there had to fix a money dispensing machine. It had a coin stuck in it. Our daughter wasn't able to get her change after paying for her meal. She told me she has had lots of trouble with that machine. The smallest things would make that machine malfunction. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fried onions, barbecue sauce and onion rings. Both were kinda tasty. My granddaughter liked them as well. She ate her meal plus some of mine. The strawberry shake was disappointing. Steak'n Shake used to have real strawberry shakes, even real bananas in them as well. They need to bring those back. Artificial strawberry flavored shakes aren't very good. Parking: Their parking lot is good-sized. Since Covid, the quality of their food has gone down. Without waiters and waitresses, the friendly service is lacking. Ordering at a kiosk is pretty impersonal. They call out your name when your order is ready. Then you go and pick it up. You also refil your own drink. The only things that are the same are that you get to see the cooks preparing your food for you. And someone is at the register to take your money. Unless you pay at the kiosk.
