Description

Steak ‘n Shake was founded in February, 1934 in Normal, Illinois. Gus Belt, Steak ‘n Shake’s founder, pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milk shakes. The Steak 'n Shake name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for STEAKBURGER. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped MILK SHAKES. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. To prove his point that his burgers were exceptionally prime, he would wheel in a barrel of steaks (including round, sirloin, and T-bones) and grind the meat into burgers right in front of the guests. Hence arose the origin of our famous slogan, “In Sight It Must Be Right.” After 79 years, we are continuing Steak n Shake’s tradition of serving the country’s best, freshest, and tastiest burgers and shakes.

Dirty,slow, horrid service. My family of six went for dinner and a shake. The place was deserted yet we waited forever for service. We ordered shakes to start of with and that was the start of the trouble. Just shakes and water nothing complex. The shakes arrive and all is well except my wife's shake is wrong the waitress says she'll fix it and apologises. 20 minutes later everyone else is finished with shakes and my wife's still hasn't shown up. I call out to a passing waitress and dinner was saved. Never again saw our original waitress Kim took over and fixed everything brought the shake and the waters then the food the other waitress had tagged the order for. Half the food was missing or incorrect. Again Kim fixed it all while our other waitress was still magically gone. Needless to say if not for Kim picking up the slack of the others it would have been much worse. End of the night Kim got a $20.00 tip we waited at the register for another 15 minutes because they screwed the bill up and the four people up there couldn't figure it out. Bad Dinner. The reason I said it was dirty at the beginning of all this is because I have MS and use crutches. The floor was so greasy my crutches kept slipping. Avoid this place.

I've never had a good experience here. This is my second time dining in and I've been through the drive through several times. I keep hoping that it will get better because the food actually is good. We are seated at a table that still hasn't been cleaned. The staff left us with salt all over the table and seats and mustard all over the salt and pepper shakers. The photos I'm posting is of the nasty tables that are right next to us. No one is cleaning them?? There are several other nasty looking tables around us. Disgusting! I had to hunt down some napkins to clean up my own table. This place needed to be shut down and needs to be cleaned and needs new management asap. The only reason I'm still sitting here is because I really do like the food. The drive through is another nightmare. Every time I've gone through, it's around a 20-30 wait! And the way the drive through is configured, you cannot get out of the line. You're boxed in. Well, we've been here for 25 minutes and got our shakes.... without straws. Hope the food comes soon. ...It's been interesting experience. The food came right out after the shakes, but one of the orders was wrong. 25 minutes later one of us had to go find the order. I forgot to mention that the floors are VERY sticky! Yuck! They finally got those tables cleaned! After about an hour. While we were there,  SEVERAL families walked out after waiting forever to place an order. That's a lot of cash walking out the door! We never got our check and had to just get it. Truly, they needed more people cooking to keep up with orders and better wait staff. The staff who was getting off of work were practically RUNNING to leave work. Lol. It was funny to watch. Entertainment for real.

Went there at lunch i ordered banana and strawberry milkshake, i got totally something else. I went back and complained the got what they gave me initially then gave my original order. While driving off all i could feel was chucks of banana and strawberry not blended. This is really insulting for my first time visiting Steak and Shake.

Ridiculously slow. Terrible service. Floors look like they haven’t been clean today.   Good food but be prepared to wait LONG

Had to leave my vehicle and go inside,  fries were cold. First time experience,  should have gone inside.  The one waitress working seemed nice.

Well our waitress was new and she tried her best, very nice and all, but it seemed like the kitchen staff straight up ignored her and us. Our food came out on time, but every time we ordered our milkshakes like 3 times we never got them and the only one to apologize was the waitress. The kitchen staff was very busy with someone who doesn't work there, ignoring their customers. We ended up just leaving without our milkshakes, which is a bit disappointing considering the name of this restaurant....first and last time

I recommend this to everyone. Food is great, served hot. The fries with the parmesan and herbs upgrade for cheap is amazing on The fries. We didn't have to wait t9 be seated, drinks and food came right away. The waitress was wonderful, she didn't over or under check she came at the right time when I didn't have a mouthful of food. We sat down and ate then right before we left we ordered some more food to go.

I am not one to enjoy breakfast food from any place other than my kitchen, so I wasn't expecting too much when I went to Steak and Shake for breakfast. I was completely blown away when my family's breakfast arrived. The food was fabulous, and I really enjoyed my meal. Our server was wonderful as well, he was there when we needed him but not constantly hovering over us. I will definitely be visiting here the next time I'm out running errands and need breakfast.

Went in around 7pm on the 3rd of September.  Dinning area was mostly empty and service was still extremely slow. Waited 40 minutes before going to the counter to ask what was taking so long to only be told our food was coming up. Roughly 15 minutes later we got our food. I had to fix my burger because it was half off the bun and surprisingly cold. My sons hot dog was overly burnt and cold as well. My wife's food was the only warm not hot plate. Not wanting to make a big deal and just wanting to eat and leave I realized a quarter of the way through my meal there was spots of mold on my bun. This is by far the worst experience I have ever recieved from any dinning establishment. Service was horrible and there reaction to me telling them that was brushed off as if they didn't care. I promptly told them I was not paying for my meal and that me and my family are leaving. Will never return and would not recommend to anyone.

I love steak n shake but this location was managed poorly. Not very clean, a long wait, and they mixed up our order. We waited 40 minutes for our food when the usual wait is 10 minutes at another location. Our waitress ran into another employee with our drinks because she was not paying attention. As we waited we saw several other customers leave too.
