This was our first time skiing out west and second time skiing overall. We found the ski school incredible beneficial and worth every cent. The staff was over the top helpful and the resort was well kept. The trails were only 25% open when we went December 2020 due to lack of snow but that didn’t slow us down one bit. They had trails for miles with gorgeous views and fun routes down the mountain. The town of Steamboat was a lot of fun as well, with great dining, shopping, and you can’t miss the Strawberry Hot Springs! It’s a beautiful but long drive from Denver to get here, but we hope to be back someday!
If you are an experienced skier, this is the place to go! They have a great variety of intermediate and above runs. Not as big as other places like Copper, but still good. If you are a beginner, know there is a limited amount of beginner runs and many are traverse style runs that are more narrow, road like than wide open green runs you can spread out on. That was my only disappointment for my kids. The beginner runs at steamboat didn't hold a candle to the wide open, long greens at so many other resorts where the kids can really work their turns across an entire run. The beginner lift area is again a relatively small, narrow set of runs. That said, the instructors are top notch, so even if you do come know the kids will have amazing instructors. The only other downside I noticed when compared to other resorts is the lift signage. Very hard to tell what lift you are coming up to until you are pretty much in the lift line, unlike others where the name is prominent and large on the lift canopy.
The resort layout was great. From parking, the shops/restaurants and lifts. The trails were well maintained and everyone who went enjoyed themselves. The staff was the friendly and helpful, the best out of all the resorts I've been too. Special shout out to Karen Sue who was so helpful midway up the mountain snowshoeing and encouraged us that we were almost up to the top. Then hours later recognized us down in the pavilion and ask how the rest of our journey went. First class staff! We already plan to be back in the summer and next winter.
Second time here and this time the snow was much better. Came to Steamboat this time on our annual ski trip to celebrate a friend's birthday first week of March. Every year we try a "new" place - at least one were most of the folks haven't hit before. We rented a place not too far from the base but with 3 skiers in the group we ended up driving to one of the free lots and walking or taking the bus to the base. The first day had no new snow so we just explored the mountain trying to avoid anything that got sun, melted and froze over during the night. Was pretty icy, chunky, and hard but we still had fun. Next day though it had dumped overnight and snowed off and on all day. Lot more smiles and fun. Explored the trees and steeper terrain that day and the next. Fun trip. Hope to hit Steamboat again in the near future as it's not all that far from home.
They have plenty of slopes. Weekdays are not too busy. It is a little pricey for the average person, but you do get what you pay for. The instructors were great. I had Kyle and Billy instructing me with 2 other guests. These instructors made it a point to know who you are and make you the priority of their occupation. The other two guys were not picking up the craft and we stayed on the small training area. The instructor was shadowing the other instructor, so they could not split up to take me to the bigger slopes. I wish I could have gone, but I was not wanting to go alone. The area was absolutely breath taking. Free parking in the meadows parking lot. Take the bus or walk a little and take the gondola at the nearby condos. I will save up some more money and return. Take care and God bless, from the little blue jeep.
Steamboat is the gold standard for US ski resorts. It has enough altitude and location to get great snow and has a massively developed resort to ensure there are hills for all levels of skiing. This is known as Ski Town USA for a reason. The hill is a short free bus ride from anywhere, there are plenty of hotels to choose from, and the vibe is incredible. If you have an Icon pass the this is a must. My favorite ski hill
I've never been to a resort until now. This place has so many amenities it's hard to put into one review. Down at the base you have a general store and multiple food options with ski rental shops and heated grounds so to make sure the snow doesn't pile up in the walk ways. You have the mountain which has 169 runs for all types of riders. The views are awesome and the staff make this place easy to navigate asking them any questions.
Pictures does not do any of this justice! The gondola ride was beautiful and when you get to the top of the ride, breathtaking views all around! It was really cool to watch people do yoga on the grass right there. Dogs were everywhere on leashes with their human but it was nice to see that our furry friends are allowed!! This is a must do if you are just visiting in the summer mo ths!!
Visited this resort as a beginner. The Greens were amazing for someone who wanted to be comfortable but also challenge themselves. They also have night skiing with a few runs open. You can get free parking and take a shuttle to the resort. The shuttle systems are extremely easy. I recommend doing free parking versus pay parking. There is a pay parking garage right next to the resort that is $40-$50 a day. Probably not the most beautiful resort but it was a fun time on some champagne powder.
Awesome mountain with excellent terrain for all abilities. Family friendly atmosphere with great service. Crowds are manageable. We were there during Presidents’ Day weekend and we had a great time. Snowfall is always consistent and the conditions are usually very good.
