This place is like a Nordstrom Rack, and DSW Shoes, and a Home Goods all rolled into one, without the Children’s section Stein Mart does not sell anything children’s related. Although the store has shopping carts designed to securely hold your child in place. Store is CLEAN and neatly organized and has a mini Macy’s feel compared to a Ross or Marshall’s. There are actual clothing displays and mannequins. Staff is helpful and approachable. There are sales clerks working on the floor unlike going to a Ross, Marshall’s, or a TJ Maxx where all the sales clerks are only cashiers. And the cashier area is not going through a long maze of merchandise to try to get you to buy more. In the women’s section, there are designated petites, plus size, active wear, dresses, juniors areas. I would say the discounted merchandise sold here is what you find is a cross between a TJ Maxx and Nordstrom’s Rack Level - lots of Michael Kors, Lucky Brand, Coach, etc. It is actually a pleasant experience to shop here. Nice Touch: There is self- serve free bottled water as soon as you walk in. Never seen this at a bargain discount store.
Always a value and great selection of brand names. Whether one is shopping for household goods, clothing or notions there is something here to please. The stores are clean and well organised. Staffing is a little thin so plan on having to track down a sales rep if you need help. Otherwise, a pleasant place to shop.
Stein Mart is the most unique store. Their prices are on the order of the other discount places like HomeGoods, Ross, Etc. But they seem to be better organized and less Junkie feeling. I like it because they have plenty of men's clothing and if your golfer this is the place to go for golf wear without paying specialty shop prices.
Went in and spent time looking and trying on clothes. Great sale ..... nope sales lady said sorry forgot to take sign down . Turns out my items weren't a great price after all. I'll stick to tj max and Marshalls they have the same stuff at a much lesser price. 2 stars cause it was clean big selection but the old bait and switch game is strong there. First and last visit.
So glad to find you. Visiting Alabama, my Sister in Law took me to your store. Fabulous store, great customer service, clean, well lit, merchandise well placed and neat. Great prices. It was a joy to shop there. I’ll visit your Walnut Creek store soon. I live in Castro Valley but will rearrange my time to get their soon. Phyllis Moroney
Good fashion however customer service is a bit lacking. I love shopping there but yesterday was not that fun. Employees ignored us as if we weren't there. We had several questions but they never bothered to ask if we needed help.
Opens far too late for the modern shopper. It has mall hours, although located in a busy shopping center with lots of customers going to other stores, like Safeway and Petco well before 10am. Just a few miles away, fellow discounters, Walmart open at 7am, Target at 7 or 8, Kmart at 8, Ross and Marshall's at 830 or 930. Too many competitors out there for the early shopper, who just dropped their kids off at School or early hardware run. And unfort, 10am is too late for anyone working normal hours. I'm going over to Marshall's now,who also open pathetically late, but respect their customers' time more than Stein Mart. 10am is for dinosaurs, and other relics....primariy Stein Mart customer profile. Last time here, I may have been the youngest person in the store at 53. I'm not saying anything, but a couple of times I turned a corner to sharp, and was horrified with discount plastic surgery results.staring back at me Update : Marshall's was crowded at 930, got over $200 in merchandise I wanted to offer Steinmart.
Went into store, found out it's a discount storelike Marshalls but better with Greg Norman and PGA brand golf shirts for men, I will be back. Picked up couple of pillows, tossing the old ones.
Really like this store just kind of a pain to get to after work due to high volume of traffic. If they could open one closer to me I'd be there all the time. So probably a good thing.
I live in Oakland where, with the exception of McCallou's in Montclair far from most residences we have no ladies' clothing stores. Only some small boutique's. Yesterday I discovered Stein Mart in Walnut Creek and liked the clothes I saw. Everything is priced at half price, which to me seem to be the correct prices. I am slightly handicapped in that I cannot step up or down from the sidewalk into the street. I had to walk to the PetCo shop to walk down. And then I had to walk back to my car. To me that is a real obstacle and this alone would keep me from driving from Oakland to visit your store. Also the deep trench with some plants next to the parking spaces would be dangerous for me when it gets dark. nell fliehmann
