Building communities for innovative and entrepreneurial research.
Located on the banks of the Hudson River across from mid-town Manhattan, the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE) seeks to redefine the traditional university-industry technology transfer process by creating an unconventional entrepreneurial solution -- the Academic-Innovation-Transfer process.
Our mission confidently addresses the challenges facing engineering and science now and into the future yet remains true to the vision of the founders of Stevens Institute as one of the first dedicated engineering schools in the nation. Their vision was to provide education that would prepare leader; a vision embodied by an environment which fosters the entrepreneurial orientation needed by graduates as they enter the global economic workforce.
The success of our alumni provides abundant testimony to the strength of their vision and to the Stevens education which serves the state, nation and the world by graduating talented and broadly educated engineers and scientists, and by conducting innovative research that creates new knowledge and transitions this knowledge to the benefit of society via the creation of new technologies and processes.
The mission of the OIE is to cultivate, promote and manage an environment of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Stevens. It is imperative for academic entrepreneurial activities to be initiated at the faculty level and be supported by the academic administration. In order to encourage entrepreneurial behavior a dynamic entrepreneurial culture must first be established. Thus, the mission of the OIE is:To foster and nurture an entrepreneurial culture that is accepted across the entire Institute community.
