We love Stillwater PD. They are the best and they love us and our city so much! It’s our job to support them and make sure they know they are loved and APPRECIATED! Thank you for risking your lives each day to keep us safe. We are grateful.
I have had a few interactions with Stillwater PD, once even not at my finest moment and they have been nothing but outstanding to deal with. Every officer has had a human side and non authoritative demeanor and was kind and personable. In 2022 god knows they don’t have an easy job either
With so many smaller community's cutting the number of Police officers, or doing away with them all together I am haply to have this force watching over us. Being an officer is a hard job and I applaud the officers and the family's who so willing share the burden working in such a dangerous field. Its hard to believe there are so many negative reviews If a parking ticket is the worst thing that has ever happened to you, lucky you! First Responders are not just the ones to pull you out of a burning building, rescue you from a violent car crash or get you to the hospital within the moments between life and death. They are also the ones who pick up your disabled father when he falls and your 1000 miles away and right him. Be grateful, say thank you, attend a police community event, be involved.
We went on a Riverboat Cruise on 9-22-18 and because there were no parking spaces left, we asked the cruise personnel where else we can park. They told us when they get this busy, they allow people to park along the yellow curbs. Well with both sides of the road being used for parking, there was no room left for people to drive through to exit the parking lot. For this reason, we jumped the curb and parked partly on the grass to open up a lane. A good idea, or so we thought. We came out from the cruise & everybody had tickets from parking patrol Schommer, badge # 243. I called to see what the problem was because the ticket didn't specify. When I called, the other parking person at Stillwater PD, he was a bit short & a bit rude when I asked about the ticket. To top it off patrol Schommer must have watched us park, because the ticket was issued within a minute or two of us getting on the boat. Apparently patrol Schommer didn't see what we were trying to do. Next time we will know to block in traffic instead of using common sense. Maybe next time try to see the reason for such actions before issuing tickets. A warning would have got the message across because I'm sure none of us meant to break the law.
Stillwater PD keeps the community safe on many accounts. A resident recently was locked out of their home and tried to break back in. Police arrived quickly and calmly handled the situation. Unfortunately they get a bad rap because the loudest of people are the only ones who are heard and often have a pre-existing thought towards police in the first place. Keep up the great work!
We live in town. A while back while out of town I was listening to my house via the internet and heard what sounded like a disturbance at my home. I read on the town website that the PD will check on your home if you call them so I did. An officer showed up and looked around as I surprised him via my web cam audio and we chatted a bit, although because of the connection we struggled to communicate and understand each other. It was nice that dispatch was willing to send an officer out and this officer gave me an update on the spot! Kudos to our town PD.
I am a longtime resident of Stillwater. The police are arrogant and intimidating. They dont carry themselves as servants of our community. Rather wannabe tough guy enforcers. Shades on. Arms crossed. No handshake. I dont feel safe calling on them. I dont feel confident they are on our side. Ive had better service from the Minneapolis police believe it or not. I think Stillwater needs to reevaluate its police force and its training standards. A good start would be human relations and simple manners.
I truly do not understand why I could not finish my walking loop up at a well lighted elementary school at night. This is my frequent walking place that is safe after I am done with work. An officer followed me up over the parking lot into the foursquare court of the elementary school, and when I asked what the problem was, he stated that I could not be at a "city park" after 10:00pm. Problem is, this wasn't a city park - it is a public school. After searching the local ordinances, I was not able to locate any law or ordinance relating to public school grounds after 10:00pm. I am still trying to understand what I did wrong. I felt threatened by a truck jumping the curb coming after me on public grounds.
I've lived in Stillwater since 1990 and have always found the officers to be diligent and courteous. Shocked by all the negative reviews. Being a cop is a tough job, so cut them some slack folks.
Super comforting knowing that every squad is eating lunch in the next town over during bar close on a Saturday night while the drunks are popping out of the woodwork, shameful!
