Student Veterans Association (SVA) on Miami University's Oxford campus, serving all current Miami student veterans.
Today's veterans face numerous obstacles in their path of attaining a college degree. These challenges range from a missing sense of camaraderie to feeling like an outsider amongst 18 year old traditional students to a lack of understanding by university faculty. When coupled with the visible and invisible wounds of war, a college degree can be an elusive goal for men and women returning from military service. Student Veterans of America (SVA) makes that goal a reality.
The purpose of the Student Veterans Association (SVA) at Miami University is to provide a network of support to military veterans, their families and civilian supporters; secondly, to work with the university administration to meet the needs of student veterans and prospective student veterans; thirdly, to cultivate student veterans concerns through scheduled meetings, advocacy, social and recreational activities; fourthly, to foster esprit de corps among student veterans and promote an understanding of student veterans issues. Finally, to provide a resource for new and prospective student veterans to ease the transition into student life through the knowledge and experience gained from those that have come before.
To provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation.
