Visited in July of 2023. Very nice bakery but very difficult to get to currently with the consturction on the road. If you're coming from the wrong direction you'll have to go down to the next light to make a U-turn. We went around 15 mins before closing on a Thursday and there was a much more limited selection but everyone still found something they wanted. The employees told us that they bake more varieties on Friday and Saturday but we wouldn't be able to stop by on those days as we were leaving town. My suggestion would be to try and hit the bakery up earlier in the morning. We got the pineapple upsidedown cake, the chocolate lava cake, chocolate delight, key lime pie and cranberry scone. My favorite was the pineapple upsidedown cake. Partial as I've always like this cake no matter where I get it from. My second was the key lime pie. I just like that tart contrast with the sweet crust. They also had some cool cakes that if we ever needed some in the future while visiting Virginia Beach we would definitely come here to order it. While we were there the family in front of us was ordering a birthday cake too. Over all great baked goods, freindly staff and you can't beat their company's mission statement of helping those with disabilities with employment. We would definitely visit again in the future.
The eclipse cake was delicious! Service was super friendly. I would recommend this place for the quality, array of baked goods, and amazing customer service I also love those story and want to support a business like this
I go here every year at least once. Everything always tastes really good. The Persian tastes like a homemade honey bun, the donuts are yummy and I'd recommend any bakery item.
We'd been wanting to try this bakery for a while. We needed some desserts for a small family Easter dinner, so it was a great reason to stop by. This bakery was a pleasant surprise. There was a wide variety of choices. The cakes were decorated very well. As soon as I saw the "bunny butt" cake I knew we had to have that for the kids. It was a huge hit and made them all laugh!!! My husband chose some mini cannoli and rugelach. Both were a major win with his Italian/Polish family. I do wish they had some gluten free items, but I know it can be difficult for a bakery to prevent cross contamination. No judgement. Anyway, the family greatly enjoyed the desserts we brought. We will definitely return.
They make amazing cakes everytime we have ordered. Super moist. Great flavors, super nice and great customer service. And, they employ people with disabilities. Hands down its the best bakery in Virginia Beach!
Ok so I purchased two 10 " cakes 2 weeks ago, for my coworkers bridal dinner the Dark Thunder and Strawberry Lemon Ping OMGEEEEE !! THEY WERE BOTH AMAZING and all I can say is there was NO cake left! Love love Sugar Plum Bakery!
If I could rate 0 I would. My mother called in for a birthday for myself over the phone. We wanted a pink girly cake, with vanilla buttercream pink and a chocolate cake. Instead, they decided to make a chocolate cake, with chocolate icing and a pink border with red writing. I called several times to see if there was anyway it could be fixed but was tossed around to two different people saying they couldn’t do anything, not even a refund. Her argument was that there weren’t any cake decorators to fix the issue in the bakery, but if we addressed the issue in store they would’ve been able to rectify it. Which doesn’t make sense if your business is open until 4, and we’re calling in the afternoon, you don’t have decorators to fix mistakes before close of business? She was quite dismissive and although she said it “wasn’t about the money” she took no accountability for her, or the actual person who took the order and got it 100% wrong. So not only did the cake not match the theme pink it tasted like it was a day or two old, frozen cake. It’s sad because I’ve done business with this company before but will no longer. They turned what should’ve been a happy birthday for me, into a stressful one and no one there had any empathy or rectified the situation. So if you decide to place a custom order I would be very careful because they may just decide to do whatever they want and give you the complete opposite of what you asked for.
Coffee was good! I really liked the wedding cake flavor. Pastries are hit or miss for what I like, but I would definitely come back because of the customer service. We had a little mix-up at the register, and they worked very hard to try and correct it. It eventually ended with them giving us a gift card to make up for us being double charged. We're pretty easygoing, so this was a perfectly fine idea to us! Everyone makes mistakes
Love Sugar Plum. I go there every time I visit VA Beach. The blueberry and orange cranberry muffins are delucious. Anothet favorite are the vanilla cupcakes. Prices are good too. Just overall great quality.
Outstanding! And, I love a business with a true person! Many of the employees are special needs. My birthday cake was delicious!
